Home opener, here we come!

After a successful 5-2 road trip — and we all know that the umpiring helped with one of those L’s — the San Francisco Giants will be able to commence with their opening home stand.  First up, the Arizona D’bags.

So far, Brandon Belt is on course to hit over 150 home runs this season.  Michael Morse, our off-season acquisition, is fitting in with the crowd of bats, contributing his own RBIs and clutch hits while Buster is looking vintage Buster.  Pence is coming around with some hits, and Panda’s weight loss has made him quicker with the glove.

Despite the first place standing and all the accolades befitting a team that has won 2 World Series within the last three years, all the attention has been on the Los Angeles Dodgers.  ESPN has them on speed dial from their butt phone, and we can all take comfort in knowing that even if Cainer were to throw a no-hitter during Sunday’s game, the focus of all stories would be on Yasiel Puig’s precious thumb.  He needs it, of course, as prints are required at the police station for his next infraction which, as we say in Hollywood, is COMING SOON!

Otherwise, we love our San Francisco Giants.  We don’t need celebrity announcers to remember the names of our players, and we don’t need the allure of the Kardashian family to bring us to our beautiful stadium.

150 jacks is TOTALLY gonna happen, too 😉

That VietnameseIceCream is a scream and so is @battedbob…

UConn has work to do if they’re going to win this game against the comeback kids…

  2. xoot says:

KY big guys are hurt. OFF rebounds and put backs are off tonight.

AJ Ellis apparently ripped up his knee on that ill-advised play at the plate the other day.

    • sandy32koufax says:

Bad news, I hadn’t been online, with any time, until about an hour ago and hadn’t gone to sosg or any sports reporting. And no, the Splash doesn’t count as sports reporting. Butera will be the starter and I’m wondering iof LA brings back Timfed or goes with d’Arnaud or Hedges. I’m guessing Federowicz but we’ll see.

UConn doesn’t have the horses with two guys in foul trouble, KY guys hurting or not. Unless UC opens their D back up and keeps hitting threes again.

  3. sandy32koufax says:

wtf? he wastes a TO then not even a decent shot?

  4. sandy32koufax says:

Anything could happen but realistically? This is all KY’s to lose

  5. Chico says:

    1 point game

  6. Chico says:

AJ Ellis is a very underrated player. Sorry to hear it.

    • sandy32koufax says:

In many ways he is underrated. His arm isn’t and neither is his bat, otoh, I see him make costly fielding errors at the worst possible times. Passed balls or catchers’ interference, when there’s a man on third.

  7. sandy32koufax says:

    wow. YIPPIE!

  8. sandy32koufax says:

    That’s 4 or 5 now for UConn

  9. Chico says:

Sorry Xoot. They played well for such a young team.

    • sandy32koufax says:

I didn’t think UConn would win, KY had it all going their way. Like xoot said though, KY wasn’t finishing by hitting those shots down low.

  10. sandy32koufax says:

Hey, I’ve never been to Conn., can anyone tell me what it’s like, demographically? I’ve always thought of it as a wealthy mans’ suburb of NYC

    • Chico says:

Lots of Wall Street lives in Conn. very affluent from what I’ve heard.

    • xoot says:

My mother’s from Conn, my father from Ky. With any sense, I should’ve picked this final. Danbury Conn., where my grandparents lived, and where I started first grade, is not a high rolling city. Famous for its federal prison. New Haven, away from Yale, isn’t really well heeled either. The state is so small, however, most descriptions roll several cities together.

      • sandy32koufax says:

Everything I’ve ever seen of Conn is beautiful, whether it’s settled or wilderness. Thanks, I really don’t know much about the place. Meh, KY was a great pick and had every chance to win for one reason, they didn’t give up.

  11. shoelessinbearvalley says:

Imported from The Splash, because we need to find / offer solutions to what Tim Flannery – and unless otherwise mistaken, the rest of ‘us’ (excluding me) seem to agree is the kind of ‘sacred’ game, “that has worked fine for over 130 years….”

    Rank 333000003

“this is brilliant. slow down the game with replay and tv breaks and speed it up, too!”

    Rank 377000002

“this idea was also being played up a bit on KNBR’sFitz n’ Brooks, yesterday. Terrible idea, I agree.”

As for expanded replay, it’s here to stay (until further notice); so better to focus on what needs fixing and how to fix it.

Examples how to speed up expanded replay

    — nix the 30 second pre-challenge rule
    — limit the manager 3-5 seconds to throw the challenge flag.

The above will serve to mitigate the last out call at the plate with the team running off the field, etc..

    — limit the N.Y. replay review booth a maximum of 1 minute – as John Shea earlier suggested.

  12. Chico says:

    Lets go Giants!

    • Chico says:

WOW. Multiple sources: Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob has had talks with A’s owner John Fisher about Lacob’s interest in buying the A’s… MORE…

      • xoot says:

Hmmm. Here’s my immediate guess: Lacob would up the offer for south bay territory enough to get the Giants to approve. Then he’d move the A’s to San Jose and the Warriors to a new arena built on the China Basin parking lot.

  13. Chico says:

Excellent ceremonies.. The Giants know how to do things right.

  14. xoot says:

I envy you guys in the front of the tvs.

  15. Chico says:

Gee Jay is a fucking bitch.. Take a look at the Splash (Batkid).. What a bitch!

  16. annapirhana says:

    This was a good win!

  17. xoot says:

From Baggarly’s blog post on the break-down in Giants-Sandoval negotiations:

“Sandoval has said several times that his impending free agency is not weighing on him, but he spent several minutes during batting practice over the weekend talking with agent Scott Boras behind home plate at Dodger Stadium. Boras often gives solicited advice to players who aren’t his clients. But you can bet they weren’t trading healthy pasta recipes.”

I’ll bet the bums were real happy to give Boras access to Pablo. Assholes.

    • xoot says:

btw, now that Zito’s retired, the Giants don’t have a single player represented by Boras. The bums apparently have two: Ryu, with his 6 yr (2013-18) $36M deal, and the great 2B Alex Guerrero, with his 4 yr (2014-17) $28M deal. I guess that means Boras gets the run of the place.

      • Chico says:

Their TWC/LASN thing is going to tank! You heard it here first!

      • xoot says:

The union regulations governing player agents contain a section (sec. 5(B)(8)) that requires any agent who doesn’t officially represent a player to give formal email notice to the union ANY TIME the agent communicates with such a player. In fact, the agent is supposed to give advance notice of the planned communication, and its nature, if possible. If not possible, then immediately afterward. Only exception? Simple greeting, like “Hey, how you doin?”

btw, on a somewhat similar note, that guy PY claims to be the manager and agent of several LA TV personalities. Damndest profession.

    • annapirhana says:

I heard that if a deal isn’t struck before the All-Star break, Panda will go free agency. Weird.

  18. Chico says:

    Will Jansen blow the save!?!

  19. sandy32koufax says:

Gotta like the walk off in the bottom of the 10th. Venus de Crawford, is it?

  20. Chico says:

    Bums win. Rajai Davis, why!?!

    • annapirhana says:

I guess anybody can be an agent. I wanted Panda to get a new deal until I heard all the demands. Pence is so hard working and he keeps in shape. I love Panda but we know that he can get out of shape pretty quickly. The All-Star break demand for me, though, is what makes me angry.

    • xoot says:

Friend of mine made a living for a while representing pro athletes and former pro athletes (baseball, basketball, football, auto racing, etc.) who had to sue their agents and former agents for fraud and breach of fiduciary duty. I got involved in a few of the cases. Even some pretty smart athletes got defrauded. The worst conduct–the outright fraud–became less common as the unions tightened up agent-licensing requirements. The agent ranks still include some sleazy crooks, however, always operating close to that unethical line. Looks like Pablo found himself a choice pair.

  21. sandy32koufax says:

Hey, Idk if this was brought up last week but I thot it was hilarious-Dykes said he wants to teach his recruits and the rest of the team how to play football…too funny

  22. sandy32koufax says:

    Josh Beckett sux

  23. Chico says:

    Timmy sux.

  24. xoot says:

Lincecum has never been worse, although last year he did give up more runs in 3.2 innings, in a game vs. Arroyo. But that was Lincecum’s start after his 148 pitch no hitter. He looks lost out there now.

  25. shaman138 says:

    This game sux.

  26. Chico says:

At least Posey ran into one.

  27. sandy32koufax says:

    He tagged it.

  28. sandy32koufax says:

    League sux

  29. Chico says:

Yank Arias and pout in Adrianza.. Swinging at the mistletoe never works.. Shit.

  30. annapirhana says:

I noticed that people have left in droves. boooooo

    • Chico says:

      GeeJay’s type of peeps.

      • annapirhana says:

Speaking of which, I finally found the thread where she began to rail on the Gamer Babe thing. Seems she was only mildly un-okay with it until going somehow ballistic. Apparently, the same tirade took place on twitter, as witnessed by a friend. Whatever her reasons, she is an out and out liar who told me she sold her season tickets to the Giants because of Vogelsong, only to admit on the Splash that she never had season tickets. So I don’t think she’d leave in droves. She’d leave like a meatball, rolled out of the stadium.

        • Chico says:

Another habitual liar, just like that Terry Flores on K&K… And PY, too. If he keeps it up, his photo is going viral.

  31. sandy32koufax says:

Federowicz is already paying other teams good returns, couldn’t stop a WP he had a shot at by Wright then has a PB so Kinsler goes from 1st to third…amazing

  32. annapirhana says:

OKAY BIG RALLY TIME! Where did Shoeless go?

  33. Chico says:

    Y manana hotra cosa. How’d I do?

  34. sandy32koufax says:

The inmates are running the asylum and the orderlies don’t give a shit.

  35. sandy32koufax says:

    Jansen REALLY SUX!

  36. Chico says:

    Kaep? Discuss.

    • sandy32koufax says:

What’s to discuss? We have no facts yet.

      • Chico says:

Always give the benefit of the doubt to the female.. Our society is whacked, but getting better, in this case.

        • sandy32koufax says:

I agree and did as much on the story a few hrs ago. Trolls suck and there are tons of shitty things that I’ve read. The remark I made was in response to Strike5 but his post was deled.

  37. sandy32koufax says:

Is it my browser or has sfgate changed it’s format…again?

    • Chico says:

It has changed.. Worse than ever. The hell with that place.

      • sandy32koufax says:

The banner doesn’t move and the screen has a cramped look on my phone, netbook and laptop.

        • shaman138 says:

Yeah, they found a way to make that website even worse than it already is…I didn’t know that was possible

          • sandy32koufax says:

I was trying to nav the site and some stuff works and some stuff doesn’t. When I click the sun, a cool weather graphic comes up-cheesy but cool. When I click “My Acct” the weather locator comes up…wtf?

  38. shaman138 says:

Err, Vogue-y is not looking good so far. Even Cliff Fucking Pennington is teeing off on us now.

  39. Chico says:

God dammit. He finally gets a ground ball and Hicks boots it..

  40. sandy32koufax says:

Is that a YOUNG Henry Schulman in the dugout with Craig? He has hair and doesn’t 250…even kinda “edgy” looking.

  41. sandy32koufax says:

Roger Craig does not like steroids!

  42. xoot says:

Would’ve been a different WS in 1989 without the earth quake, says Roger Craig, given how well the Giants had been playing at home. Also, “maybe steroids had sumpin to do with it.”

84 year old can speak his mind. Take that LaRussa.

  43. sandy32koufax says:

Sharp as ever and he looks good.

  44. Chico says:

Stay strong Darren Ford. I’m not a religious man but prayers, thoughts, whatever. . I hope he’s okay.

    • sandy32koufax says:

Bianucci says he didn’t move after the headlong into a block or concrete wall. No doubt, be well, Ford.

  45. unca_chuck says:

    What happened to Darren Ford?

  46. sandy32koufax says:

Fack, Morse is a big dude and he’s seeing the ball well lately.

  47. Chico says:

    Morse is clutch.

  48. sandy32koufax says:

  49. xoot says:

    Andrew Baggarly ‏@CSNBaggs 1m
From Fords agent MT @JoshuaKusnick Never lost consciousness, put on stretcher as precaution. Has full movement. Likely concussion, back pain

  50. sandy32koufax says:

  51. sandy32koufax says:

  52. sandy32koufax says:

  53. Chico says:

Nice to get out of that! Excellent job.

  54. sandy32koufax says:

    Andrew Baggarly ‏@CSNBaggs 1m
Did Tony Campana reallly just lose a ball in the seagulls?

  55. Chico says:

    Romo hurt?

  56. unca_chuck says:

Yeah he looked like he tweaked his knee.

  57. unca_chuck says:

Fucking Pablo doing his best to cheapen his contract

  58. Chico says:

    Nobody left in the bullpen

  59. Chico says:

    Son of a bitch

  60. sandy32koufax says:

So. It seems a jints fan was at Clinton’s speech in Vegas where a local woman threw a shoe at Hillary!

“A black and orange shoe was recovered from the stage,” Spellacy said.”

  61. xoot says:

Along with the pounds he lost in the off season Pablo seems to have lost his desire to play great ball. He’ll always commit the occasional puzzling physical error. Happens a couple of times every year, along with many more great plays. But the error last night was both a mental and a physical eff up. That wasn’t a play he could make while blowing a gum bubble. He had no chance on the runner at 1B. Now if he had tried to deke–faking a throw to 1B, then turning to nab the runner rounding 3B–then we would’ve seen a player who cared about winning the god damned game. Instead, I think we saw a guy who just wasn’t engaged. He made half of a tough play and flubbed the rest. Literally a half-assed effort.

Yes, I realize he showed up early at the park yesterday to hit soft toss from Bam Bam. That’s nice. But he needs to show up during the games, especially in the critical moments. If he doesn’t, I suspect the Giants will have no regrets when selling the unopened crates of panda hats this winter to the bums or the yanks.

  62. unca_chuck says:

YEah, I just wish we had someone resembling a major leaguer behind him. He seems to be gettin head-fucked by all this contract talk.

    • sandy32koufax says:

I wonder if that sentiment is why so many guys or their agents say they won’t talk “contracts” during the season. Pence is one thing, he’ll be fine, imo, Pandoval? He does seem mightily distracted.

      • xoot says:

Bumgarner and the Giants negotiated his extension during the first three weeks of the 2012 season.

Of course, MadBum took less than he turns out to be worth, but if he stays strong he’ll be able to negotiate an extension with some retro compensation built in.

I think Pablo’s agents are tyros.

        • sandy32koufax says:

Good info, but that’s not the norm, is it? Yeah, he should have been offered more, he deserved it then, but you’re right-he’ll “get paid” next time out.

They do seem to be dilettantes. Good luck, Pabs

  63. shaman138 says:

I’m off to the game…I think Bum is lights out tonight and we win big. Giants have had de la rosas number for awhile now. Cheers!

  64. sandy32koufax says:

It’s shitty at at&t I bet. the city was breezo central and it was getting cloudy when I skipped town.

  65. sandy32koufax says:

Morse looks like a total head. I can see dude hangin at the lake, a buncha babes on his jet-boat and a doobie in his mouth and a beer in his hand.

  66. sandy32koufax says:

I’d trade the guy on first for that run.every time

  67. sandy32koufax says:

DAMN! Splash hit jack for Cargo?!

  68. sandy32koufax says:

    shot by crawford

  69. shaman138 says:

Finally made it in…seems like the wind is dying down some. This is a winnable game.

  70. xoot says:

    un fucking believable

  71. sandy32koufax says:

    Wow is right. Fucking wow

  72. sandy32koufax says:

Nice surprise tonight in AZ, Jamey Wright came in for thr 8th and struck out the side…Ryu looked good too. TOTALLY missed Madbum’s jack though. Had to watch it on MLB replay

  73. sandy32koufax says:

    Belt’s staying relevant and important

  74. Chico says:

I missed the Salami, but I saw it on replay. BOMB!

  75. sandy32koufax says:

Ya, Pandovals’ agts are in his head

  76. sandy32koufax says:

Is Puig playing Ctr for SF now?

  77. sandy32koufax says:

    Then Craw looks killer

  78. Chico says:

If Juan Perez ever learned to hit well, he’d be a fucking STAR!

  79. sandy32koufax says:

    Romo k’s the side…nice save

  80. Chico says:

SFGate is not letting me sign in.

  81. unca_chuck says:

Goat’s head soup is great. I always thought thought Star Star was Keith Richards homage to Chuck Berry.

  82. Chico says:

Scotty Ferrall used to open his sports radio show on Sirius (Howard Stern channel) with that song.. I fell in love with it.

  83. sandy32koufax says:

I just read that tonight was Perez’ first career start in Ctr so I can see Bochy cutting him some slack plus he did have the DP. Sounded like a fun game to see, too. It kept me watching the tube.

    • xoot says:

Perez smoked a drive deep into the gap that the Rocks’ CF made a great play on. He’ll get his hits. And he looks like the best bunter on the team to me–with his speed that’ll mean more than just sacs. I like Perez.

  84. annapirhana says:

OMG gentlemen…feel free to feel jealous. I just got my first unsolicited boob pic tonight on my phone!

    • sandy32koufax says:

      From a hot burby?

    • Chico says:

That’s awesome! You should see what Sandy texts me. Rated R.

      • annapirhana says:

Oh? I miss to much living in the suburbs. Nighttime is the right time. Are you getting sexy Puig photos?

      • Chico says:

EDIT: Of women.. Hell, I belong to a group text thing that’s named after our local happy hour spot – it’s a tell all story, but ain’t nobody getting pics of my wife.. Most of the guys are single or dating. Us married guys don’t comment much, but we don’t leave the group, either 😉

        • Chico says:

I actually had to inform one guy that if she’s not okay with it, that it’s illegal.. Bad break up turns into revenge porn. He then took them down. I bought him a beer for doing so.

        • annapirhana says:

You and SFDF are way too funny. hahahahaha

          • sandy32koufax says:

Thanks for the invite to that page we go to chico, it’s been very generous that way too. real life? odd way we’re living these days.

            • annapirhana says:

So apparently, I’m the only person on this planet using my cell phone to just call people?

              • Chico says:

Just to clarify what Sandy said.. I invited him to a closed group (politics) on facebook. He then gets into another closed group that’s pretty damn, how do I say this.. People feeling a wee-bit-randy. . . I’m not a member of that group. I’m happily married, but I’m not going to deny the pics or the stories 😉 If we really do have a creator, he wired us this way on purpose and I’m a big believer in you only live once. Might as well have some fun!

                • annapirhana says:

YOLO is right. I have no problems with people seeing photos or experiencing something with others. I don’t have the American hang up with sex, but apparently I am quite behind the times when it comes to my cell phone. Although I have to admit that phone was not operational for a few years, which might have caused me to fall behind the times. Not that I’m going to join the fray, but my only plans so far was to take photos of my food on the airplane to and from Japan, and to snap pictures of things and people (clothed) that I saw.

              • sandy32koufax says:

you don’t use your phone for anything but calls? Really?

                • sandy32koufax says:

Use your phone, as chico and I do, (indeed much of the world) For the good of others. Sharing is caring, is it not?

              • Chico says:

And Sandy promised to take me and the kiddos fishing.. I’m taking him up on that offer.. I need to learn it again (haven’t fished in years), so we’re going to get together, have a few brews, shoot the breeze and learn how to fresh-water fish, so I can pass it down to my kids.. Is it possible to really, really like a Dodger fan? I think so.

      • annapirhana says:

Well, this photo doesn’t have a face attached to it. Just the naughty bits. And there is another photo with naughty bits. So without a face, I could be looking at nude photos of Nancy Grace. Electronic media is very entertaining, I must say!

  85. Chico says:

San Gregorio is good for me. Wherever.. You can crash on the couch or I’ll get you a room at a nice place.. Shit, I might even get two rooms, drop the wife and kids off and party with you until closing time. I know the bartenders, the owners, the locals, the band members, the owners daughters, the local chapter, the surfers, the ranch hands, the backup. . . This is my town. Come on down bro. Call me tomorrow night (baby shower in San Lorenzo for my nephew from noon till the kids get tired.. We’ll set something up.

  86. xoot says:

    Posey at 1B today.

  87. annapirhana says:

    Panda Panda ::shakes head::

  88. sandy32koufax says:

Ya, dude looked a little slow. Good choice not trying for the triple

    • xoot says:

There’s almost too much to enjoy in that vid. The prank itself would be enough, but that’s just the main story in what is really a stunning slice of minor league life.

      • annapirhana says:

Yeah. ..I really enjoyed it for those reasons. I admit feeling a bit of guilt seeing Brooks Conrad though.

        • sandy32koufax says:

Love stories like this-that it’s all captured on video makes it even more fun. Francoeur seems like a good guy and an easy Canuck Mark 😉

I hadn’t even considered the Conrad tie-in until coming back and reading after viewing, some of those guys have taken tough roads yet they persist. Is it baseball or a job? Listening to the guys I’ve known that went down those roads, it’s both but mainly baseball.

  89. xoot says:

Hudson is a great fielding pitcher. Man.

    • sandy32koufax says:

      Pandoval DEEP HR

      • xoot says:

Jon Miller’s erroneous splash hit call today reminds me of the very first potential splash hit. In 2000, a night game, Bonds launched one a mile high toward RF. Miller was sure it would be the first to land in the water and got very excited. Instead, something pushed the ball toward the line and it hit about half way up the foul pole. Over the radio, you could hear it, like a struck gong. Miller was abashed.

        • xoot says:

The KNBR am broadcast is a full two pitches ahead of my HD tv. I sort of miss the old days, when the kids and I would watch the Channel 2 broadcasts on our ND tv.

          • sandy32koufax says:

I was on the phone with Chico the other night, we both had the game on but his feed was abt 10 seconds ahead of mine. I had to end the call cuz he kept whooping and hollering or getting upset over the game before I’d see it.

            • xoot says:

Yeah, that happens every time my older son calls to talk to me about an ongoing game. I’m way behind his small-town feed.

  90. xoot says:

And Pablo has a good game going today. If he and Lincecum can both get right, we’ll murder the bums this week.

  91. sandy32koufax says:

Serious attempt at home by Blanco. He ever touch home?

  92. xoot says:

Flannery eff’d up that one. Hope Blanco isn’t hurt seriously.

otoh, Blanco coulda ended the game right there and it would take a great throw to keep him from scoring. Good gamble, imo
