Interesting article on HOF voting. I could argue with him about Sosa, but otherwise this guy’s got good reasons for his positions.

    • Chico says:

Excellent read Xoot.. Stark makes a lot of sense and I really enjoyed reading that.. Stark has a new fan!

Twinfan started his own blog. It looks like it’s mainly about politics.. I’ve been looking for a forum where I can discuss politics, gun violence etc and found it.

    • Chico says:

This was considered abusive by the comical censors. This link, linked in a tweet by an sfgate employee. Fucking fascists.

The trophies in the Governor’s office.

    • shaman138 says:

I think they were trying to use him as some sort of trade bait or something…but obviously now nobody will want this useless sack of shit. If McKenzie has any sense he will cut this clown NOW.

    • shaman138 says:

And this is why sfgate is completely fucked as a social media news site. They allow degenerates like this to thrive while deleting harmless comments from Giants fans who just want to talk baseball.

“hqd: Commented on “Rolando McClain arrested again”

Trade him to New York for Mark Sanchise. All the Mexicans will rejuvenate Mark’s career even if the kid can barely speak his native language”

  4. Chico says:

    Fuck John Shea.

A 5 story bldg in honor of Yu Darvish?

    A museum yet?

  7. mailorderwife says:

My awesome husband bought me the 2012 WS DVD set and the World Series with NLCS Game 7 bonus…which is sort of rip off nuts. You have to buy both the set and WS DVD to get NLDS Game 5, NLCS Game 5, NLCS Game 7 + the WS games.

Anywho, we had a great time listening to the Detroit broadcast of Game 1 of the WS. They have a pretty funny broadcasting crew that were very knowledgeable and tried not to be too much on the homer side. Tried to watch both the Cards and Reds broadcast of the playoff games, but the radio crew for both teams were zzzzzzzzzzz.

I love the SF Giants for having great broadcasting teams since my childhood. My favorite will always be Lon Simmons, but I also love Hank Greenwald.

I wish baseball would start this month!

    • sandy32koufax says:

Good for you and WHATTA GUY!

    • xoot says:

Hank Greenwald was terrific. I was really pissed off when the Giants let him go to NY, delighted when he came back, and then puzzled when he retired. Larry Baer forced him out, they say. And then the Giants brought in Jon Miller and his brilliance made us overlook the circumstances of Hank’s departure. Larry Baer is one nasty guy. But I’m getting too serious.

How about the WORST Giants broadcasting guys? Ron Fairly, numero uno. The guy was both incompetent and a dodger homer. No hope for a guy with those flaws. Joe Angel’s up there, too. FP Santangelo. Anyone else?

      • Chico says:

I grew up listening to Greenwald with my father.. Good memories.

Joe Angel didn’t do it for me either. I have no clue how FP got the National’s color job. Was there not anyone else qualified?

      • mailorderwife says:

Greenwald was forced out by Baer? Do tell. What else has Baer done? He used to ride the Richmond District ballpark express to the games with a friend of mine. He said that Baer was quiet. Who knew? I was never happy that the other Microsoft guy was forced out. Was that Baer too?

        • xoot says:

I don’t know the details about the Greenwald-Baer conflict. I also don’t know what role Baer played in the Neukom ouster. I liked Neuk as the managing general partner. I think LIncecum has a bond with him (the Seattle connection, possibly). But the other owners certainly made the call on Neukom in the end. The fact that Baer earned a promotion as a result of the change is suggestive, though.

Back in 2011 when the Neukom debacle occurred, I posted a couple of bullshit comments on the splash about my displeasure and my suspicions of Baer. Some commenter I’d never seen before showed up to defend Baer’s honor, offering long, impassioned descriptions of his importance in the early days of the new ownership, in the signing of Bonds, in getting the ballpark built, etc., etc. Sure seemed like the Giants had assigned someone from the armies of marketing and promotions people they have in the front office to spread the propaganda. Either that or I’d managed to piss off Larry Baer’s mother. It was pretty funny. I never saw that commenter again.

          • mailorderwife says:

I’m grateful that the PTB saved the Giants, but I am uncomfortable with this effort of the team owners to become this great entertainment entity in San Francisco. I always figure that money lost in another venture will be revenue that won’t be paid to a deserving player or a needed free agent. Just…you know…concentrate on the Giants, please?

I got this letter from the office of Dan Gilbert, who owns the Cavs / Lake Erie Monsters / Cleveland Gladiators and a gigantic casino at the Cleveland Q. They had conducted a survey of Cavs season ticket holders (they never spoke to me!) to see what the most important needs of a fan might be. Their answer? Something along the lines of “…while people suggested players and more talent, the answer was…” an exclusive club for season ticket holders, making our lot privileged to all sort of perks that the casual one-ticket/small season ticket buyer cannot enjoy. I mean seriously? Your team cannot muster ten wins yet, but it is CLEAR that the greatest team need is an exclusive club.

Given the opportunity and without Duke Neukom, this is the sort of tomfoolery I envision from the SF Giants investors.

  8. Chico says:

    You married well MOW!

  9. Chico says:

    Could this be WBB?

He used to use ‘Polly’ a lot.

  10. xoot says:

Just happened to watch Letterman for a while tonight. He mentions that no one got voted into the HOF this year. Punch line? “They say Pete Rose is taking bets on the results next year.”

    • mailorderwife says:

Pete Rose has a reality show coming up soon. He has a new and very young wife, and some jokes are centered around her big breasts. I remember seeing a photo of the original Mrs. Pete Rose, who looked like Mr. Pete Rose with longer hair and those perfectly round suburban curls at the ends.

  11. unca_chuck says:

Pete Rose. Great great GREAT baseball player. Saw him in a ton a games. A complete and utter tool as a human being, though. Shilling his book when he ‘confessed’ to gambling 14 years after the fact was hucksterism at its finest. What a fricking idiot. He should be in the Hall of Fame, but he should also be in the Hall of Lame. Grubbing around the fringes of the HOF selling his signature is also pretty cheesy, but to each his own. Now a reality show? I give it 3 episodes. Blech.

  12. mailorderwife says:

    The former Mrs. Pete Rose:

    The current Mrs. Pete Rose:

On a side note, I remember working with the former TV soap opera “Passions”. Pete Rose’s youngest daughter had a role on that show playing the Angel of Light. While I did not like — well, hated — Rose during his playing career, his devotion for his daughter while on the set was really touching.

    • Chico says:

That’s the first good thing I’ve heard about him as a person. At least he’s a good father.

I’m wondering how close in age his daughter and his new squeeze are.

      • sandy32koufax says:

Say whatever you’d like about Rose, he was a winner as a ballplayer and a consummate team guy. I’m sure he was a prick to whomever he so chose to treat that way but I’m equally sure he’d do whatever it took to help his teammates.

As to his wives, I have no idea what the truth of their marriages was, you know, the inner-workings of the first or the second.

Mrs Rose II looks like a stripper though…

Being a father is totally separate, in my mind, from being a public figure or a husband. As great a father my dad was, he was NOT a great husband-too many starlets when we lived in LA and too many socialites in SF…so these things are not always indicative of “who” someone may be…

    • xoot says:

Those photos are terrific. Pete Rose’s life story would make a hilarious picaresque novel.

  13. Chico says:

Damn Sandy, you didn’t tell us it was your birthday a few days ago. Happy B-Day man!

    • sandy32koufax says:

Thanks Chico…I went out Sunday night, we spoke remember, and karaoke’d for several hours followed by a Monday night filled with old Sunset boys and girls from my distant past.

BTW, my Birthdays are just another day for me, hence the non-announcement.

Thanks and a shoutout to MOB/MOW for posting on my FB wall tho…

  14. Chico says:

    Playoff football tomorrow!

  15. JDR says:

The Packers hotel was egged last night.
A Police investigation showed one carton of eggs were used in the assault, 3 hit the hotel, 4 hit random trees and cars in front of the building. The final 5 were found broken or laying on the ground next to the package.
After assessing the evidence, police have arrested Alex Smith as the main suspect.

  16. sandy32koufax says:

  17. Chico says:

    Go Niners!

    • sandy32koufax says:

If both teams “show up” this should be a great game.

Tomorrow it would be great to see Seattle bear Atl.

And Manning is getting screwed by his receivers…

  18. sandy32koufax says:

    Great TD catch by Stokely…

  19. xoot says:

Great catch by Smith. Holy shit. Athletic all the way to his fingertips.

  20. JDR says:

New post up for the game.

Because fuck the Packers, that’s why.
