You forgot to mention xoot’s favorite player, Jerry Sands!

  2. shaman138 says:

We musn’t forget about the Great Dee Gordon!

  3. shaman138 says:

Also, Chuck, you need to tell Del Mar Douche to fuck off–he’s a plague on your blog.

  4. JDR says:

Not sure if it’s been discussed in another post as I’ve been away this week, but how fucked is the new Atlanta BP cap? Think about it” one asshole actually suggested bringing back “chief nokahoma” and then a team of even bigger assholes actually agreed it would be a good idea.

    • shaman138 says:

I saw it–it’s just another notch in that fucking team’s inherent, blatant racism. As if it couldn’t get any worse that the Chop. My ex-gf is a big Braves and A’s fan who despises the Giants and a few months after we broke up in 2010 the Giants eliminated the Braves in Atlanta on her birthday. I was a very happy guy that day. 😉 And this year her b-day fell on the same day that Posey hit the grand slam in Cincy and eliminated Dusty’s boy. To that I say……HA!

    • xoot says:

I guess the “screaming indian” image is a proposal for batting-practice caps. It’s as if they’re trying to slip their racist pandering under the radar. I’m always pleased when I see or hear about those guys down in the RF corner at China Basin who show up for BP before Atlanta games. They give the Atlanta players on the field and in the bullpen holy hell. (That’s why the Atlanta pitching coach famously lost his temper a couple years back.) Interesting, principled basis for a nasty rivalry.

      • Chico says:

I just googled it.. That’s not even racist, that ‘openly’ racist. Remember John Rocker? When I think of the Braves, I think of him..

        I HATE the Braves.

      • Chico says:

They’re calling the hat the ‘screaming savage’ — F’n assholes.

        • xoot says:

Florida State is the worst, I think. They essentially celebrate the Trail of Tears every time they launch into the chop. I don’t understand why Atlanta tries so hard to be just as craven and racist. But they do. The Redskins are third in line. Cleveland, of course, is different. Their “indian” cartoon is horrible; but the history behind their team name isn’t.

My older kid was on the “Indians” one year in little league. None of us who coached the team ever wore one of those cartoon-image hats. We made sure the kids knew why. The head coach argued strenuously with the league over the issue. He wanted to know why the kids couldn’t just wear the hats with the “C” on them. The league cited mlb licensing agreements. In other words, mlb foisted the racist hats on the kids.

          • JDR says:

Apparently Florida State does enough outreach/aid with the Seminole tribe to get their approval to use the nickname. That rule is one of the few things the NCAA has done right in recent years.

            • xoot says:

I didn’t know about that. Thanks. I’ll check it out. They may drop to number three in my estimation real quick. Now if they’d just eliminate the chop . . . .

      • mailorderwife says:

I have a Braves fan close friend who still owes me a batch of cookies for the Giants having a better record this year. He lives in Georgia and is the neighbor of John Rocker. My friend makes fun of Rocker all the time as they belong to the same country club, and Rocker wants to be BFFs with my friend. Says he is as much an asshole in real life as has been written. No surprise there!

    • JDR says:

What really pisses me off is when people try to justify Notre Dame or the New Orleans Saints as the “same thing” for white people. As an old friend of mine said, when there’s a Jesus mascot with a hot dog shooting crucifix, that argument will have merit.

      • xoot says:

Apparently when a former women’s college turned into Florida State Univ. after WWII, there was some sort of election to pick the athletic name. Among the finalists was “The Crackers.” Or so a wikipedia article claims. Having personally attended a school that eventually added intercollegiate sports to its programs and adopted a big yellow slug as its mascot, I have to admit I really admire the feisty Floridians who proposed The Crackers. Little irony never did anyone any harm. Gives me some faith in human nature.

  5. Chico says:

I have never seen someone get lunched on an internet message board like Mossback has the last few days.. He should just call it a day and give up. He’s looking pathetic!

    • JDR says:

If the past is any indication, come tomorrow all of those posts will be taken down and a new site rule will be put in place to block the word “mossy”

    • xoot says:

His attempts to play gotcha with JC and FC both backfired. Even new commenters passing through for the first time laughed at his umpire theories. I don’t understand why anyone would enjoy that sort of opprobrium.

  6. mailorderwife says:

I’m too frightened of your board, UncaChuck.

  7. unca_chuck says:

He’s been slipping for a while. It stinks. I get tired of people baiting or repeating themselves. I’ve warned Dennis. Twin drove off a couple people himself and split. A mini insider in other words.

    Bleeeech

  8. Chico says:

I never understood arguing on the internet.. `Sure, a few ribbings back and forth but after a while, it’s not worth the time, except for the few times when its worth it, like virtually kicking a tea-bagger all over the virtual parking lot on the Huffington Post..

    Niners! Great Viking/Packer game, too..

  9. shaman138 says:

His bizarre obsession with Manning is somewhat disturbing, to say the least.

  10. sandy32koufax says:

    Damn!

    Harry Carey Jr. has died…

    Happy trails, to you.

  11. Chico says:

Huge head coach firings going on today.. The one I don’t understand is Lovie Smith.. It’s been 9 years, looks like Chicago wanted to go in another direction.. Still, I think he’s at least a decent head coach..

Look for Chip Kelley to leave Oregon before sanctions come down for cheating.

    • JDR says:

I guess the Bears got tired of being just good enough to not make the playoffs or get a good draft pick. Though we don’t know to what extent Lovie was involved in the Cutler trade. He might have staked himself to that deal panning out for them.

  12. mailorderwife says:

Ake Ome Koto Yoro! Happy New Years, gentleman! IT’S A NEW BASEBALL SEASON!

  13. xoot says:

Out to dinner and then saw Django Unchained. My companion was surprisingly entertained. Keeping track of the various levels of violence was like riding a roller coaster. Spike Lee says he hates the movie so much he’s refusing to see it. Walking down an empty street in Oakland afterward to the car was a trip in itself. If you leave a theater and find, even for a few minutes, that a movie has changed your way of looking at the world, it’s a good one, right? Quiet midnight back home was just fine after all that. I heard the champagne corks arc through the dark branches and softly hit the distant ground, like harmless ammunition aimed with symbolic ineffectuality at time itself. On the other hand, the days are already getting longer, and baseball season is approaching.

  14. shaman138 says:

Happy New Year’s peeps! Go Badgers!

  15. mailorderwife says:

Some awesome stuff from 12+ hours ago (last year): 30 Most Powerful Photobombs for the Year. I love #12 and #1.

  16. shaman138 says:

Sometimes hair of the dog is the only cure. Just sayin…

  17. sandy32koufax says:

Damn, Stanford’s making this look too easy against Wisc…
