10:53 a.m.
— The Phillies seems to have won the Michael Young derby.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7 EDITION
10:34 p.m.

Nate Schierholtz is close to signing with the Yankees.

They also want to dump Shin-Soo Choo, the only Asian for miles that doesn’t consider Benihana type restaurants to be Asian.

  1. unca_chuck says:

One bad game and you are throwing in the towel, Sham? I mean really, it’s not like we traded all of our draft choices away for a retired QB who throws a pick a game. And is leading the team back to oblivion.

At this point, the Niners are the #2 seed in the NFC. There will be hell to pay if the Niners somehow lose to Miami, though. Going to Seattle on a 2-game losing streak, with the division lead on the line, would not be a great situatuion to be in.

    • shaman138 says:

He did win the game for the Rams…I doubt Smith would fuck up like that. The play calling was absurd, too. I don’t understand how they they can dominate the Packers, Bears, and Saints but struggle against the Vikings and Rams. That is some serious inconsistency. But Alex is more than welcome to cross the bay and take over for moronic Carson Palmer.

      • unca_chuck says:

Ywah, all these past 2 seasons all we hear is that Smith limits the play calling. What was their excuse yesterday? The Niners didn’t adjust at all to the Rams packing the line and playing deep. They should have kept throwing slants all day as the RCB was 12 yards off whoever lined up as the weak side WR.

  2. datswhatsup says:

Think Napoli to Boston means Texas will have to keep Hamilton

  3. Chico says:

Well, Greg Roman’s name has been floating around for the HC job at Cal.. I think people can put that rumor to rest after yesterday.. Couldn’t adjust to the Rams D at all.. Dropped balls, a bad call and the inability to call plays to run the ball outside of the tackles…… Akers sucking… We deserved to lose that game.

At least we’re not the North Korea of the NFL like the team across the bay.

  4. shaman138 says:

I don’t give a shit where Victorino goes just as long as he stays far away from the Giants.

  5. Chico says:

I mean we fucking call for an option pitch that close the the goal line?? Stupid.. Running Gore twice in a row to set up a 50+ yard FG in OT is absolutely idiotic.

    That wasn’t a safety, btw.

If you’re going to play conservative you might as well have kept Alex in there.

  6. shaman138 says:

Harbaugh needs to stop playing stupid Joe College games or they’re going to be abruptly bounced from the playoffs

  7. datswhatsup says:

too bad LaRoche hates SF, if they could swing him at 1B move Belt to LF and fix both spots short term (3 years).

As bad a Hanley is at SS, the fact that LA has but Flavor Flav Gordon on the market must mean he cannot or will not learn to bunt and hit the ball on the ground.

With Napoli gone and Young the next to go, no talk what so ever about Hamilton makes me think (hope) the Giants may come from no where to make a big three year offer (like LAA swooped in for Pujols last year. Aside from the Cubs, what teams with money and a need for an OF are left? (Boston, LA, NYY, LAA)

SF is THE most tolerant city when it comes to recreational drug use, it won’t bother folks like it might in fly over states.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Young Sir Alex could very well end up across the bay. What about Dennis Allen? Is he related to George Allen? Will he still be coach? I don’t have any idea what their plans are going forward. They seemed to be getting their shit together last year. Then, blammo. Giving up the world for Palmer is going to take a while to overcome.

  9. unca_chuck says:

Dats, drug use isn’t the problem for the fans to deal with. It’s Hamilton. Frankly, I think he ain’t worth the trouble. He’s hurt a lot, and there’s the wagon to deal with.

  10. unca_chuck says:

The only guy that really makes sense for the Giants OF is Pagan. Bouorn has ziltch power and seems to be sllwing down. Without his speed, he’s nothing. Hamilton is too fragile, both emotionally and physically. Upton is going for a ton of money. Better to overpay some for Pagan that having to settle for some other shittier guy at a later date.

  11. Chico says:

    Pagan is back!

  12. shaman138 says:

Pagan is staying. Shove it up your ass, Phillies.

  13. mailorderwife says:

Since this week is Winter Baseball Meetings, some of you may hear news before I do. I don’t have to be the only person updating the Hot Stove, so please add your voice :>

  14. xoot says:

By “a large return” for Dee, do the bums mean someone who can play at the mlb level? Or maybe a fat guy who can pitch? (2012 Devaris Gordon, aka @skinnyswag9: 20 BB 62 SOs .228/.280/.281 — and, of course, .561.)

  15. sandy32koufax says:

    • Chico says:

So, the biggest news of the month is Pagan signing with the Giants.. Then they post a new Splash blog post about who Lasorda thinks should get into the hall. That place is a joke.

      • xoot says:

John Shea is running around the winter meeting site like a rabid rat, asking everyone who’ll talk into his tape recorder if Bonds and Clemens deserve HOF votes. Nice work. So nice to hear about what the Giants may be discussing with other teams. (LF or platooner there? replacement for Huff off the bench? closer?)

  16. Chico says:

Three years 24mil for Scooter? Damn.. What bad economy??? πŸ˜‰

  17. sandy32koufax says:

38 years old and a 3 year contract?

  18. mailorderwife says:

Tommy Lasodra’s sanctimonious ranting against steroid era users and Bonds is mind numbing, considering that Mark McGuire is now with Dodgers. Where are his rants against that?

    • Chico says:

      Remember this?

      • mailorderwife says:

Well, I had never heard of it until now. There are probably things in life I don’t wish to picture, yo.

        • Chico says:

I understand.. My point was that Tommy Lasorda isn’t a person who is qualified to speak about morals or ethics.. He cheated on his wife and has a history of making misogynistic remarks about his co-workers daughters.. I mean like graphic and disgusting remarks about girls that were a little over the age of 18… He’s scum to me.

  19. Chico says:

Victorino gets Pagan $$$?? lol @ Boston.

    • xoot says:

The Red Sox are rebuilding in a peculair way, after dumping so much salary on LA. If they make a deal for Dee Gordon, too, I think we’ll have prima facie evidence of corrupt collusion.

    • datswhatsup says:

Stupid me thought SF might get Victorino for two years $15m

Man that would have been a great OF and one fast team.

Boston acting like the old Wheel of Fortune where they made you buy shit until your winnings were gone.

“uh Pat and Vanna I’ll take Victorino for $15 million, the popcorn popper for $40, the pool table ping pong table for $225 and the rest on account”

  20. unca_chuck says:

Giants sign Scutaro to a 3 yr/$20 mill deal. Huh.

Ain’t my money. Didn’t think they’d sign Pagan, Scooter, AND Affeldt, but hey, they won the WS, thay can shell out some schekels. . . .

    Party on, Giants!!! Re-peat re-peat re-peat!

    • xoot says:

Where’d you hear that? Baggarly’s saying the offer is 2 years with a vesting option.

Any of you near a tv should watch Chronicle live at 5 & report back to those of us stuck at work — the Giants writers and Bochy will be on.

  21. unca_chuck says:

Well, not so fast. Scoots is still weighing his options. The G’s offer is 2 with an option. In the $24 mill area. I know. Nice area.

  22. unca_chuck says:

Their biggest obstacle is (no shit) the Cardinals. Scoots wants to stay, but he also said he’d like to go to a team with ST in Fla. Like the Cards do.

  23. Chico says:

Listening to Woodson on KNBR… Didn’t know that Pagan had a higher WAR than A-Rod over the last 4 years.. BoSox were stupid to sign Victorino for that kind of $$……

Sounds like the Yankees are looking at Keppinger as a backup plan if Scoots signs with us..

  24. xoot says:

Looks like the perfecto is replaying on comcastsnba right now.

    • xoot says:

shit, right after I posted that an Astro almost hit a double down the line in the top of the 4th. Two inches foul, Belt had no play on it. Whew!

      • Chico says:

My kids are stuck on Frosty the snowman as you bring up the perfecto.. Damn, I won’t win the TV battle. No way.

      • xoot says:

Ken Rosenthal tweets that Scutaro signed with the Giants for 3 years, $20M.

        • xoot says:

          Yep. Henry S. confirms.

          • Chico says:

Wow.. less $$ than what KNBR was reporting on earlier.. We didn’t have a choice, imo..

Apparently, when he got to San Francisco he changed his approach at the plate (more contact & base hits rather than power) and it sure as hell worked.. I’m very happy to have him back, even if it is one year too long..

  25. Chico says:

MOW, you are seriously ON THE MONEY with timing, like seconds… Awesome.

    • xoot says:

I jumped in and did that in case she was busy. Now I see she was about 30 seconds behind me. This has been a great thing for the blog.

      • mailorderwife says:

You were fine, Xoot! All I did was change some coding as the font sizes disappeared :>

        • xoot says:

Oh. Well thank you! I better be more careful.

          • mailorderwife says:

No worries on that end. WordPress HTML editing box is very confusing. I use an outside program to keep the coding straight, as I WordPress has randomly dumped coding I have used in the past. What’s most important is the facts, and I can always just clean up the appearance.

  26. datswhatsup says:

They got Pagan an an obvious home town discount (see Victorino contract) and for less than they paid Rowand last year

Singed Scutaro (in a year with no 2b available) for what they paid Freddy Sanchez and Scutaro last year

Signed Affeldt for less than they paid Affeldt and Melky last year

Will get Pence for less than what they paid Pence and Huff last year

TL comes off the books for $20m after 2013, if he slides that a lot to spend on a replacement or he stays for less

Zito comes off the books for $18m after 2013…see TL above

I think the exec of the year still has the money to land a LF of note.

  27. unca_chuck says:

    Perfect game!

    Oh. sorry.

  28. mailorderwife says:

Don Mattingly just said that steroid users do not belong in the HOF. (Yet, come on over as a batting coach!)

  29. sandy32koufax says:

    Love this “local”…

I grew up listening to every type of music but Jazz just “stuck”

Thanks for all the great moments and those transcend music

Someone teach me how to paste shit into here w/o using links.

    • xoot says:

The software usually takes care of the hard work. πŸ˜‰ Yeah, I heard a lot of jazz growing up, and I still listen to it a lot. Nothing like good jazz live, in a club. I miss the old Keystone Corner in NBeach. Yoshi’s is nice, but it ain’t the same.

      • sandy32koufax says:

There was a small club in the northwest corner of the SF cannery bldg, Lord Someone? that my old man used to take me to-all the greats and near greats just hung out there. I’d sit at the end of the bar and he would ‘sit-in’ with them til LATE

Benny Green, who is a friend of mine and is also a tenant in my parents flat in Berkeley.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_Green_(pianist)
        http://bennygreenmusic.com/

One of the nicest people I ever met..

        • Chico says:

Now can he play piano or what?? One of the best in the world!

          • sandy32koufax says:

Green rox it and is a fun guy to hear-even speaking he has “it” going on pretty good.

I met Ray Brown a couple of times. Once when he and Diane Schuur just layed down some off the cuff sounds with a bunch of studio musicians in a house in Sac and down in LA out in beautiful Lynwood…good times, believe it or not.

Not familiar with Hutchinson but my buddy sez he is “the shit”

            Here’s a guy I went to HS with…”living the dream”…

  30. Chico says:

    LOL, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hue_Jackson

A Furd troll edited Hue Jackson’s wiki page and Cal struck back! Read it before it’s changed!

    • Chico says:

Now, the same page says that Jackson is Boise State’s head coach after Chris Petersen left to take Cal’s job.

EDIT: Now it’s changed AGAIN. Now Jackson is at USC after Kiffnits returned to Tennessee. Hahahaha!

      • Chico says:

“Hue Jackson (born October 22, 1965) is currently the head coach for the University of Southern California, after Lane Kiffin left for Tennessee, which was successful in hiring him back with a huge pay increase after being impressed by his gamesmanship of deflating balls and changing jerseys. He recently served as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League after previously serving as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2010.[1][2]”

        Classic!

  31. unca_chuck says:

I heard Cal was looking the SJSU’s football coach. Granted I have no idea who that is . . .

  32. sandy32koufax says:

    Football Studs of tomorrow:

The West Catholic Athletic League released its all-league football team today. Here is how the league broke it down in terms of special honors (I will update when I get a minute with the rest of the team the league chose):

    *********

  33. sandy32koufax says:

No on Wilson, but gee thanks.

The Zachster? Okay but don’t give him a 2013 Kevin Brown contract.

  34. Chico says:

Its Dykes.. Not a sexy hire, but it could be a good one.
He’s improved Louisiana Tech every year he’s been there:
2009 (Before Dykes is hired): 4-8
    2010 (Dykes hired): 5-7
    2011: 7-5
    2012: 9-3

Of his 8 losses in 2011 and 2012, only one of them was a loss determined by more than one possession.

Played BCS-bound TAMU within 2 points.

His offense ranks 577.92 yards/game, good for 2nd in the NCAA (and less than a yard/game from being first).

Won the All-American Football Foundation’s Mike Campbell Top Assistant Award in 2006.

In his first season as OC at Arizona, he improved their yards/game by 130.

He’s bringing his OC and assistants with him too.

  35. sandy32koufax says:

    Yeah, Blanton is a stud…

  36. xoot says:

Idiots on the splash insulting Brian Wilson as if he were Armando Benitez.

  37. Chico says:

Is it just me, or is this the first site you visit when that PC gets fired up? Haven’t looked at the Splash in 36 hours or so. Time to take the plunge and take a look over there.

    • shaman138 says:

As always, it’s a joke. Trolling is allowed and encouraged on the Splash but any snarky comments on Queen Vlae’s Dumbbeat are swiftly removed. Pathetic display of unprofessional and biased news “direction”.

  38. Chico says:

See what’s happening in Michigan? Repub gov & state legislature.. Hating on the unions but excluding police & fire — typical jackass repubs..

    • shaman138 says:

Kinds reminds me of what’s happening here in SF–very trypical Gavin Newsom/Willie Brown moves. I’ll say it again–there are a LOT of Republican wolves in sheep’s clothing here. I won’t say the city is circling the drain yet, but it’s getting there. Ten years from now and this place could be just another sterile version of San Jose

  39. Chico says:

Live stream of the press conference with the new coach.. A lubbock Texas accent in Berkeley. I dig it!

  40. shaman138 says:

breaking news: Justices Scalia, Alito, Thomas, Roberts and Kennedy will get a chance to rule on whether Calif.’s prop. 8 violated the 14th Amendment (equal protection under the law, etc.). Of course, they love extending 14th Am. protections to corporations — but maybe not to actual people, huh? (I think I know how the other 4 justices will go on this issue.)

      • sandy32koufax says:

Is this to say they are going to rule on it or that they may rule on it?

I can see them refusing to hear it, which as I understand things, makes prop 8 void and allows Walker’s ruling to stand.

        I know, sure buddy…

  45. JDR says:

Word on MLBTR is that the Dodgers are ready to bail on the Greinke chase. Also a strange report that at least four teams are interested in trading for Dee Gordon and converting him to an OF position, but no interest in parting with him on the Dodger side.

    • Chico says:

      Sandy? Thoughts?

      • sandy32koufax says:

Haven’t looked at any of the blogs or info sites BUT…

LA has an vast gap in SP and w/o a Greinke, who comes at an extremely high cost, that need would seem to have not been met. IDK what the league rules are for FAs and deadlines so can’t speak more intelligently to this than-“Shit guys, get someone that compliments Kersh already!”

As to DeeDee, he has been a disappointment except in the field what is his lifetime OBP/WAR? Cannot be ‘good’ but he fills a need as a UINF. IDThink he has outfield armstrength though

      SFDF:

Pump your brakes, LA will get Greinke because contract money doesn’t matter when you consider what they paid for the team. It’s like buying a Maybach and having it washed via gas station drive through to save money.

I bet they’ll wait for the final offer and beat it–enough chit chat Zack call me when you’re ready to sign.

They only lose Greinke if he wants to go somewhere else, not because of money.

You are right to pine for pitching, without it LA is the NYY all hit & one pitcher.

Gordon is a mystery he must be uncoachable. Runs like the wind, plus arm and makes great plays (he’ll learn to make the routine ones). Why give up on him when his trade value is low and Handjob is your option (he’s much better at 3B than SS).

One thing about Flavor Flav Gordon, pound for pound he is the highest paid player in MLB!

These guys don’t seem the type that fail at anything. With just the incoming TV revenues they can buy, buy, buy though. That there aren’t enough “baseball minds” at the top of the pyramid and Coletti’s track record are reasons for worry re immediate turnarounds. Still, I’d rather see LA become a solid organization first and an annual contender second. If that means there are more bad times coming, so be it. Slow and steady wins the race…

    • Chico says:

Damn.. That’s sad… Please people, don’t drink and drive. Please.

    • xoot says:

Drunk driving is the worst, just the worst. Most people realize that as they get older. Some never do. True story.

Back in the 80s I had an industrial job and a nice cheap rent controlled apartment in West Berkeley. My only luxury was a Porsche 912 — the one with the four-cylinder engine in a 911 chassis. I had to go to the post office on San Pablo one afternoon to pick up a box of books for my girl friend. I was cooling my heels in line when a young black guy ran in shouting, “Green Porsche! Green Porsche!” Outside I found my car about 20 feet north of where I’d parked it. Behind it was a huge 70s era Mercury with a drunk behind the wheel. As I neared his window, he seemed to wake up, and he nearly ran me over as he roared away.

I memorized the license plate number and in the bar next to the post office, where everyone avoided my angry eyes, I called the cops. Eventually, I picked the guy out of a photo lineup. I heard nothing more until about 2 years later when I answered the phone and heard a drunk guy on the other end of the line snarl: “I want to talk to xootsuit.” “This is xoot, who are you?” “I’m the guy you sent to jail, motherfucker. And when I get through with you I’m gonna be driving a Porsche! I’m gonna be driving a Porsche!”

Of course, I told him to f off, and never heard from him again. But one day I did happen to see him. The same old enormous yellow Mercury was parked in front of a house off 10th Street, and he, keys in hand, was staggering drunk toward the driver’s side door. Manslaughter on skids.

      • shaman138 says:

Selfish prick. He knows what he’s doing…he just doesn’t care. That being said, this football season just continues to be a nightmare on so many levels. Keep the baseball news coming.

      • mailorderwife says:

Wow…what a story, Xoot! That was my favorite make of Porsche, too. Just glad you weren’t in it fiddling around with keys or something when that guy decided to go all Foster Brooks on your car.

I’m just really thankful that I survived all those car rides with boozed up friends. The ones who were driving on acid, however…I really have to thank God for surviving those. I remember one friend who ran all the red lights on Pine street as he drove me home from the Mabuhay Gardens.

BTW…can drunk drivers get hold of you that easily? Ya know…I was involved in a road rage incident a few years ago, in where this angry young Asian driver decided it was cool to box me into the fast lane and never let me off the freeway. Of course, we have cell phones nowadays, and the little twerp had no idea that while I was going all Steve McQueen on the freeway to avoid him trying to run me into the center divider, he had about four unmarked cars following him. The highway patrol was on the phone with me, and they had LA cops waiting in case I crossed county lines. It was so Hollywood, but I always wondered if that Vietnamese kid could look me up somehow since the cops took both our names.

        • xoot says:

Ha! Cell phones changed things completely. Nice, cool-headed work.

The down side is the records are available to the defendant and his/her lawyer. In fact, anyone who wants to pursue a public records act request could probably get to them. Most perps don’t. The same records would lead the cops to them if they tried anything.

  50. sandy32koufax says:

If LA gets Ryu and Greinke it’s on…

  51. JDR says:

Whelp, looks like Greinke is going to LaBumbos. Wonder if this means Texas moves to keep Hamilton.

I’d rather he not be in the division, but that is a TON of money for a guy who outside of one year has put up #2 pitcher numbers. That said, Kershaw/Greinke sizes up well with Cain/Bumgarner. After that the Giants have the advantage, while LaBumbos field a better hitting lineup IF Ethier and Crawford are on. Though I think the Giants still have unknown quantities in Belt and a matured Sandoval, not to mention Pence reverting to his career numbers.

    • mailorderwife says:

The DBags seem to have done well in the off-season too. Plus with the nice Padres lineup, next year will be fun. If, after all this, the Dodgers finish in 4th, well…c’est la vie!

    • sandy32koufax says:

Well, if Hernandez says it, it must be so.

      6@$145M, wow…

This is shaping up, on paper at least, to be a great 2013.

  52. xoot says:

6 yrs, $147M? Cain-like contract for a guy drafted out of high school the same year, 2002. But the Giants know Cain, completely. The bums are taking a big chance on Zack. But what else can they do if they want to compete with the best?

    • sandy32koufax says:

Pour some EXPENSIVE Scotch, fella…calm your nerves.

      • JDR says:

Nice pickup, the only risk is that it gives Kershaw a launching point for a record contract.

      • xoot says:

I’m actually very pleased to see the bums attempt to make something of themselves again. It has been a while since we saw the excitement of Jason Schmidt, Kevin Brown and Andruw Jones in dodger blew.

        • sandy32koufax says:

First of all, Chico, why delete?

Hey x-man, Greinke is in better shape than those others were when acquired…like I said, have some GOOD Scotch.

        • mailorderwife says:

HAHA. I’m not a fan of this sort of spending because it has made AL East baseball unwatchable for me. You end up with empty post-season seats and bandwagon fans, although Dodgers had a head start on that already.

          • sandy32koufax says:

Fans will coming back this season, methinks…

            • xoot says:

              for three innings

              • sandy32koufax says:

Have you ever been to Chavez on a weeknight, xoot? If you live in Mission Hills it can take an hour and a half to get home at 10 pm…

                • mailorderwife says:

The big piss off down here is that the Dodger deal is going to affect everyone’s cable/satellite bill to offset the cost of the price hike we’re all going to get. So why go to the stadium when you already pay for the game at home? No traffic, ya know? And it’s not going to make new fans of some angry people who just cannot afford the price hike just to pay for a bunch of players.

                • sandy32koufax says:

So you’re saying it’s all of sudden going to get as expensive to attend a Dodgers game as a Jints game? Got it. Difference being this-here most tickets are snapped up by corporations and down in LA there are about 20 million people more than here…

                • mailorderwife says:

Well, there is the all-you-can-eat section, but you can’t pin corporate on the Giants. Who do the think the Dodgers are catering to here when the owners are also active in the town’s #1 industry? Just because you have seats for Brillstein & Grey doesn’t mean that you’ve skirted the evil Amazon mayhem. I’ve only bought 2 sets of Dodger tickets the entire time I’ve been here. The rest of the time has been comp tickets from Boeing or one of the studios.

To be smart, I would never go to Dodger stadium. It’s too hard to get either in or out, the concession stands are stupid bland and way expensive, and the expensive seats are smashed in together.

              • xoot says:

I know, I know. That traffic nightmare is the main reason I hate LA. (That and the fact that I’m allergic to the smog.) Still, it really looks funny on tv.

  53. sandy32koufax says:

Kersh will get paid…and that IS going to top Greinke’s $147M.

    Weak sauce Chico…

  54. xoot says:

Grienke’s career numbers are very similar to Cain’s. Matt has more IP per year and a slightly better WHIP and SO/BB ratio, but it’s close. Their contracts are very similar, too. If MadBum pitches consistently and Vogelsong continues his run, the Giants then turn to the two question marks — the great Lincecum and the puzzling Zito. They could make a move for another pitcher if necessary, and they have three good starters warming up in the minors. Meanwhile, the bums have billingsley, harang, capuano, lilly and what’s his name Beckett to try to sort out — none of whom should strike fear into opposing batters’ hearts. In other words, I don’t think this Zack-attack is a division changer.

    • sandy32koufax says:

Not alone it isn’t. Cap may turn out but there are no current Dodgers pitchers that are consistently dependable other than K & G. Maybe LA still picks up Sanchez and Ryu…that would tip the scales nicely…

    • xoot says:

I just saw a passan tweet claiming that with Grienke’s contract the bums’ payroll for 2013 is now $228MM. I haven’t looked at the luxury-tax provisions lately, but there are penalties for such excess. Also, at some point, mlb will intervene. When the Yankees are scaling down from $190MM, the imbalance gets pretty gross. Also, of course, as we saw last year, the embarassment factor when the bums lose to the Giants is really harsh. πŸ˜‰

Pacquiao got chin-knocked out tonight.. Marquez has always been a good fighter but man, what a punch.. Somewhere in a desert area, $$$ is being exchanged..

    • mailorderwife says:

Is there much weeping and wailing in Daly City? I’ve been reading so much about Mexico v. PI, which really isn’t a fair match up. I mean, the PI has nothing outside of Pacquiao. The government is so corrupt and willing to sell the country off to China. Every other Asian country has had a revival…but PI? Hell…I don’t know what to think. My father bought us beachfront property there and built a house for my sister and I on it. While he was in the US, his family sold the property, kept the money and ate his dog. Never been to PI. Never want to go there. But Pacman is a refreshing drink to the masses who need to be known for something other than colonization, broken US govt promises and Imelda’s bra and shoe collection.

      • Chico says:

Oh I’m sure my Filipino friends aren’t happy… I like both fighters but I was pulling for Marquez. I always go for the underdog in boxing unless it’s Andre Ward out of Oakland (I worked with his father for a short bit)… One of my old buddies lives in Subic bay, the old US military base… Nice house on white sand, jet-skis, the whole shebang… Trust fund baby. I do know of govt. corruption in PI. but not that well versed on the Philippines to be honest. Your account of it sounds horrible mow… Is it that bad to where if someone sells your property, (deeds and titles, wills notwithstanding), you have no legal option? Wow, I can understand your frustration. That would suck.

        • mailorderwife says:

PI is nothing but government corruption. Someone like Pacquiao was more than a boxer, ya know? I read that he fed 1k people a day, and these are the folks that would just show up at his house for food.

As for the house, we had no legal option. They sold everything, and I bet there is some big hotel on it right about now. I don’t get too pissed off at the loss of material goods, but eating my father’s dog was sort of the killing blow there. I think SFDF is more Filipino than I am, tbh.

          • Chico says:

Damn, I wasn’t aware of him feeding people.. That’s way cool.. And the dog? Brutal….. It’s sad that people have to live in such poverty in some places.. My wife has told me stories about visiting her family in Peru, and how poor kids rushed her and her sister on the street begging for anything…. The shanty towns on the hills.. The monkeys that are trained to steal shiny objects (ear rings, etc) — Govt corruption..

Now her family is in Chile — and have managed to creep back into the middle class because of employment opportunities, good health care etc.. If we had the power to change the world. . . not gonna happen but it’s fun to think about..

Kind of off topic: I’ve dealt with many Filipino families here in the US (work related)… It’s a trip – when I’m negotiating a contract, most of the husbands refer me to their wife for negotiations. I could be wrong, but it seems like the wives wear the pants in the family.. And in some cases, they dominate their husbands – ‘don;t listen to him, he doesn’t know anything’ — I’ve gotten that many times.. I mean it’s construction – usually the husband understands the scope of the job and deals with us, but not Filipinos… Gotta be a cultural thing..

I think the PacMan gets back in the ring for another big pay day. . . After all, he got caught with a punch he didn’t see and the best lose at least once.. It’s not like he got worked out there last night (it was a good fight until that punch)..

            Lets go Niners!

            • shaman138 says:

I’m pretty familiar with Filipino culture and I know for a fact that the ladies are in charge

            • mailorderwife says:

Interesting to learn about the women. My father married a Japanese woman, and she used to boss him around like nobody’s business. She isn’t the master nagger that my aunt is, but I think that Asian women tend to be the more dominant figure in families.

Maybe it’s a shift in culture? In Japan, women no longer marry. Instead of joining some man’s family to become the oft abused caretaker of the husband’s parents, women stay home with their parents and remain happily employed. Women in Japan have decided that there is no real need for men other than as a “sex friend” (real term). Holla!

I’m sure Daly City took a page out of Colma’s book last night and mourned lost ones….he just got spanked by Marquez. And Sundays without Raider games are oh so mellow. That said…

…they signed Greinke to HOW much???????!!

  59. Chico says:

And some asshole cleaned up the comments on the Splash from last night.. All of the comments on the Drumbeat made by Xoot, JDR and SFDF *are still there*.. No double standard, no preferential treatment, none at all, right? What a fucking joke. Headed to a friends place to watch the game.. Go Niners!

  60. shaman138 says:

Don’t like the Redskins but you gotta give those guys props…they’re not giving up.

  61. JDR says:

Is it me, or does Kaepernick audible the calls a lot?

  62. shaman138 says:

Joe Buck is being especially stupid today.

  63. mailorderwife says:

Per Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, the Dodgers have spent $200m+ on their new 2nd and maybe 3rd starter. Stupid.

  64. xoot says:

You know Harbaugh is screaming at Kaepernick for forcing him to burn timeouts, but after the game Harbaugh’ll tell the press, no big deal, Kaeperanick is still getting his rhythm. Next question.

Every game I watched last year and every game I’ve watched this year, there’s a moment when I think — thank god Frank Gore and P. Willis finally have a bunch of good players around them. Those two really deserve to win it all.

  65. shaman138 says:

That drop by Moss was huge. Win or lose, the Nineyahs need to step up their game, IMO. The Squawks are red hot right now. It’s the Cheatriots and then Squawks on the road and SF isn’t likely to catch the breaks against either team like they are today
    .

    • xoot says:

I think that uncalled interference had a lot to do with the drop. Moss looked like he was a bit off balance in the EZ. Still . . . . he probably could’ve adjusted.

      • shaman138 says:

He still should have had it…it was in his hands, basically. They could have sealed the deal a lot sooner with that one, and saved their time outs, too.

  66. JDR says:

LMJ is looking pretty good, though the O-line makes a lot of guys look good. Aldon Smith has Tannehill so rattled that he just threw the ball away on 4th and 10. Nice win in what was a “trap” game ahead of the road trip.

  67. shaman138 says:

It’s quiet in cheesy Lambeau tonight…

  68. shaman138 says:

Wow, the Lions make me praise the Lord I’m a Raiders fan, that’s how dumb they’ve been tonight. They have their foot on the Cheeseheads’ throats and proceed to let them break their foot in two. Stafford is in Carson Palmer land tonight–IDIOT!

And anyone who lives in SF and hates the weather here (and people really bitch about the weather here) needs to turn on this game right now and imagine winters in Green Bay. Sideways snow? Ewwww.

  69. Chico says:

A little help over there? I’m just venting and wanting answers as to why my friends comments are being taken down but the troll comments are just fine..

    • shaman138 says:

If you mean the Crash, I’ve been ignoring that crap all day. It’s good for nothing except shits and giggles now , and the giggles aren’t that funny any more.

      • Chico says:

I’ve given up on it but thought I would try to inject a few posts in there.. It’s dead… Censorship rues the day over there.. All day every day.

        • xoot says:

Every comment I left on that thread got deleted, including a short one early on that compared the 2010 off season to this off season. The trolls have turned weekends into a farce; the ignorant moderators play along. I’ll bet they’ve got instructions to wipe out the splash when complaints start flying in. Meanwhile, over on the beat, Slusser published a long commiseration comment in a reply thread, trying to soothe the kiddies feelings about the way the AAA’s off season has gone (McCarthy gone, Gomes gone, etc., etc.)

This double-standard is laughable on a “news” site. We can vote with our feet, but it’ll be more satisfying, I think, if we let the asswipes know why we’ve put their newspaper and site behind us. It ain’t gonna change.

          • sandy32koufax says:

The funkiest part of the gate blogs is that personal attacks by others upon us stand. While even benign, and ya I know-not all of our comments are-get deleted right and left…

  70. sandy32koufax says:

    2 out of 4 is .500%, add in Kersh and that’s 3 of 5 starters…sounds good to me πŸ˜‰

“The Dodgers sign Hyun-Jin Ryu for 6 yrs./$36m with opt out after 5th year.”

  71. shaman138 says:

They can just spend 500 gazillion dollars on a couple more pitchers and they’re set.

  72. shaman138 says:

Just looked through the madness of the Splash…what a joke. Harmless comments are removed left and right while “ShAre” can slander xoot’s profession with impunity. Those fuckwads are the reason why the A’s are going to just drift away one night, leaving the Coli. sad and empty until football season. But they’ll always have the Giants…

    • xoot says:

The incessantly repetitive trolls on the splash are the worst. mosshead, despite his pomposity, isn’t a horrible guy; he’s just an awkward geek, at heart. And generalizations about the profession don’t much bother me. Every ethical lawyer has his or her favorite lawyer jokes. Keeps you alert.

Any of you remember the lawyer who found himself stuck in line for the metal detector at a D.C. court a few years back? In front of him were a couple of guys who ran a website that published lawyer jokes. They were entertaining everyone else in line with their favorites. The lawyer blew his top and, once he got inside the courthouse, located a bailiff and convinced the officer to arrest the two jokers. That lawyer should’ve been suspended from practice.

  73. Chico says:

My mom served on a jury in an interesting DUI case.. A lawyer left a bar/lounge and was pulled over and arrested for DUI. Now, his defense was crazy.. He claimed that he picked up a girl at the bar and the reason why he was swerving was because she was performing f******* on him while he was driving.. Now, from what she told me, the jury LOL’d because there was never a woman at the scene.. The arresting officer never saw a woman in the car.. I’m thinking they guy was desperate to make up such a story because his job depended on a not guilty verdict. Pretty sure the guy lost his right to be an attorney.

  74. Chico says:

Bobby Petrino to western kentucky. Now THAT was an interesting story.

  75. Chico says:

So Xoot, Mossback and JDR are being accused of being the same person by ptech.. Poor guy is confused.. Weird, as he’s usually pretty level headed (on politics)..

  76. shaman138 says:

Ok, ‘fess up, guys–which one of you is the fake Molly? That character is hilarious.

  77. Chico says:

Brandon Jacobs suspended for the rest of the season. Good riddance.
