Playoffs here we come!

So we got the Reds coming into town for two. A lot of people were hoping for the Reds but I gotta say, I think they’re just as good as the Nats. That Chapman guy is lights out when he’s not wild, so getting a lead early will be the key against these guys IMO. They can also swing the sticks, too. I have faith in our starting pitching, not so much with our bullpen. It will be up to Bochy and his managerial skills to make this department successful – and if anyone can do it, it’s him.

What a year it’s been, eh? We watched a perfect game, some fantastic defensive plays, and very clutch hitting, something we’re not that used to. We watched the Dodgers spend a quarter of a billion dollars in trying to compete with us, and had the pleasure of watching our Giants knock them out of playoff contention on game 161 – priceless!

We also went through some ups and downs, like the Melky and Mota suspensions, hamate bone surgeries, hamstring pulls, Pablo getting his whistle wet down in Capitola and being accused of assault. Huff’s divorce and his coming out about his anxiety issues. He was a huge part of out World Series win and I’ll forever be greatful to him for what he contributed to our team. Strange year in some respects.

Pagan worked his way back into his leadoff position and has been HUGE for us. Marco fucking Scutaro – what a stud this guy is. When we got him we turned into a completely different team, for the better. Kudos to Sabean too, that was the best pick -up of the season in all of baseball when it comes to how much impact he has made for the Giants.

And Buster Posey. What can I say, other than he proved everyone wrong and had one of the best years a Giant has had in a long time. He deserves the MVP.

This is my first blog post so don’t expect Hemmingway piece. Hell, I couldn’t if I tried. Go Giants, Go Niners, and fire Tedford, and fuck the Trolls!

Nice job, Chico. You the Man . . .

  2. unca_chuck says:

And if you don’t get that joke, oh well.

  3. mailorderwife says:

When this season first began, my co-workers were so overjoyed by the Dodger wins that they declared themselves division winners — in April. Among those excited were the sportswriters, which surprised me since they — of anyone — should understand that baseball is a long season of many games. Right Texas?

I am thrilled that the Giants won, and you fired off so many reasons why this has been a great season :>

  4. shaman138 says:

At hardly bluegrass checking the WC game on my phone and it appears ATL is pissing this one away. Good riddance. Meanwhile time for Jenny Lewis and then motherfucking reignwolf–that dude rocks!

  5. xoot says:

Ah, autumn baseball and a fresh round of brews at JDR. Very nice. Thanks, Chico! The Giants have a huge opportunity to jump into a two-game lead at home, thanks to mlb’s goofy div. series scheduling. Buster will put one of Chapman’s 100 mph heaters into the RCF bleachers; Pence may put one into the Cove (probably with an 0-2 count), for the first oppo splash hit ever. Anything’s possible.

50 years ago, the Beatles released their first single in the UK. We had just moved there that week. I was 10 yrs old, hearing the song on the radio while I pored through the U.S. newspapers for information about the Giants/Yankees WS games that kept getting rained out. Catchy tune, Love Me Do.

    • Chico says:

Good stuff Xoot. Love to hear about the stories that I have never known about. This, your travels across the country back in the day – road trips, Alaska etc. Keep em coming.

  6. mailorderwife says:

No tomahawk chop…YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I love me some Darvish, I want the O’s to trample the Rangers now that Ron Washington proved his true dingbattyness. In fact, I’d love an all Orange and Black series.

On Twitter, I saw someone post something that said “Someone should wake Yu Darvish up. His eyes have been closed since the start of the game.” America…really? I am so happy that I grew up in San Francisco, where I learned to eat mortadella and proscuitto from Italian American friends, Chinese food at the drop of a hat and where every single white kid with a Filipino friend can speak Taglish with perfection. Best of all, I love watching the crowds, where people of every race fills the screen. GO GIANTS!

    • Chico says:

A big reason why I’ve been avoiding the sfgate politics stuff. Racists everywhere on that site.

For politics I have been commenting on the Huffington Post. Now THAT place is diverse MOB…. Instead of ‘friending’, you can become a ‘fan’ of someone or they can become a fan of yours too… Some people that have fanned me are from rural Kansas, Arkansas, Texas etc…. Even England, Australia, Denmark etc..

I was shocked that there are people out there in rural red states with an open mind and cool on social issues that don’t exactly fit the sterotype that most think about those places… That site is the best to comment on IMO. It kinda gives me hope for the country if you know what I mean.

  7. Chico says:

Instead of heading to the city to celebrate our anniversary with our friends who got married a week after us (we were going to do a couples thing), I booked at room in Santa Cruz for the night. Hopefully I can catch most of the game in the room before dinner reservations at 8:30pm. Then it’s refreshing the Iphone at the dinner table – I’m going to have to be slick to pull it off though.

    Go Giants!

    • sandy32koufax says:

Where are you staying and having dinner? My friend owns a pretty nice bistro with good food in Capitola…Happy Anniversary, btw and DO NOT call me at home. I’m not there right now cuz “she vants to be alone”

  8. shaman138 says:

Fucking Latos….great. Otherwise a beautiful night at the ballpark

  9. filthychangeup says:

Nice entry, Chico. That game SUCKED. I really thought Belt’s catch and Cueto exiting early were good omens. But when Belt lined into that DP I knew the Giants were SOL. Sfgate is an absolute joke (more so than the norm that is). Gotta love the trolls of teams that didn’t make the postseason. Mosshead scoffing like his team didn’t get totally dominated by Verlander. I hope last night lot a fire under the Giants arses. Go Giants, go Bum!

    • shaman138 says:

I haven’t even bothered looking at the Crash…that’s typical, of course. It’s always a party there when the Giants lose…fucking ridiculous. Hopefully, we’ve seen the last of Casilla. The damn dirty Reds just got ALL of the damn breaks last night, even with the umpires. Tonight will be a different game and last time Bumgarner pitched the against damn dirty Reds was his complete game shut-out. I look for the Gs to whoop ass tonight and head into a huge game 3 in Cincy with a tied series. If not, then, well….

  10. shaman138 says:

Soo..the Reds are handling the Giants…serving them their asses on a silver platter. I’m going Sandy’s way….the Giants are getting bitch slapped and the Raiders just plain suck. I’m out for a couple of months…I’ll be back for the Niners Patriots game
…love and peace guys. See ya soon

  11. filthychangeup says:

    Embarrassing :(.

  12. xoot says:

Anybody else feeling the 1997 Blues? Dusty B remembers that disappointment. Being a big blues fan, however, he’s got lots of options. So he’s probably listening to something a bit more lively on his ipod. Dust My Broom, perhaps.

Win at least one, dammit. Win two, and we’re in it.

    • mailorderwife says:

Yeah…make it a game. I’ve always hated the Reds since the Big Red Machine days.

It was good to see Timmy. I wanted him to start the series. Yeah, he’s had a crappy year. But Timmy is a big game pitcher and a rock star, and he electrifies. Oh well.

      • xoot says:

It looked like Bochy and Rags told Lincecum to go to the pen, but wait for a call before warming up. The camera showed Lincecum talking to Mark Gardner about something, but not throwing. Then he seemed to question the decision to send him in to start the innning — something like, but you didn’t tell me to get loose. I didn’t warm up. Next thing we know, he’s out there under pressure firing good FBs and swing-through splitters, just like the old days. Epiphany?

        • sandy32koufax says:

Bochy and Rags didn’t let Lincecum psych himself out before entering the game. Not an epiphany, a stroke of luck or genius…

          • xoot says:

No. Epiphany for Lincecum. Did he realize what he did wrong all season. It’s his head that matters. Bochy and Rags seemed a bit confused; Gardner sure was.

One thing about TBS — they have a zillion cameras going, and once in a while their cut cut cut approach tells a good story. On the other hand, their field mics are terrible. Every pitch sounds like a 100 mph heater when it hits the mitt, every fly ball sounds like a bomb off the bat, and every time they capture the voice of an individual fan heckling, he sounds like a drunk with a megaphone.

  13. Chico says:

Man, what a shitty night last night was. I guess it’s easier to take getting our ass kicked 9-0. Sure beats losing a lead late in the game – or to have hope and lose it with one swing of the bat, or one bad inning.

The only thing I’ve laughed at today is mossback – he’s losing his mind on the beat. I don’t like the guy but maybe he should chill – it’s a game, not a terminal diagnosis.

  14. xoot says:

    Ok. Time for some incantation:

  15. sandy32koufax says:

    Johnson redeems himself, dramatically!

  16. mailorderwife says:

    Time to wake up, Giants!

  17. unca_chuck says:

Fuck. What a pathetic showing so far. Homer fucking Bailey is schooling us. Sad.

    • sandy32koufax says:

Hang tough, chuck…it ain’t over til it’s over.

That friend, Mr Bistro? NOW says he doesn’t own “Zelda’s”

  18. mailorderwife says:

Vogey is going to will this team to win, even if it means beating the shit out of some of his teammates.

  19. Chico says:

    Get some fucking runs!!

  20. mailorderwife says:

Okay…if you’re not going to hit the ball, start taking one for the team. Step in front of the ball and get smacked on the ass. Do it!

  21. sandy32koufax says:

SERIOUS stupidity at the splash…poor shoeless-he’s the last vestige of what was a fun blog

  22. mailorderwife says:

How about one hit here, Giants? Ball, bat. Remember?

  23. unca_chuck says:

This is pretty bad. Awful. Bailey looks like Don fucking Drysdale.

  24. unca_chuck says:

One hit in the last 14 innings?

  25. xoot says:

Christ, I think I’ll dive back into work. Hit the damn ball.

    • sandy32koufax says:

DON’T DO IT XOOT! Go sip some nice single-malt at your fav pub. What’s that place you walk down a flight of stairs to access off of College? Loud and semifun in there…

  26. mailorderwife says:

  27. Chico says:

Put arias in there for christs sake. Pablo is swinging at shit!!

  28. mailorderwife says:

    Okay…is this Affeldt or Affail?

  29. sandy32koufax says:

Affeldt picked the right guy to hit

  30. sandy32koufax says:

Hate this game all you want but it’s actually a great game.

Think outside of the Jints fanbox…it is a great game.

  31. mailorderwife says:

Okay, offense. Time to pick it up.

  32. Chico says:

I don;t understand the moves by Bochy. Unload the bench? Casilla? Fuck.

  33. sandy32koufax says:

    Nice catch

  34. xoot says:

Still checking in by computer. Looks like it’s time for the opposite field HRs vs . Chapman.

  35. Chico says:

Way to go Romo.. We’re still alive for now.

  36. xoot says:

Looks like Romo got away with one there.

  37. Chico says:

We’re gonna get to BroxTON here… Watch.

  38. Chico says:

Pence comes through! LETS GO GIANTS!!

  39. sandy32koufax says:

    Good call Bochy 😉

    j/k folks

  40. Chico says:

Come on Romo…. Close it out..

  41. xoot says:

    Well, all right!

  42. Chico says:

    Lets go Motor City!!!

  43. sandy32koufax says:

Time to go cut some trees.

Congrats Jints fans-kind of a micrcosm of SF’s year-uber gutsy comeback victory

  44. mailorderwife says:

THANK YOU JESUS!! Start of that 11 game win streak!

  45. unca_chuck says:

Ugly has never been so beautiful.

  46. Chico says:

    Alright Blanco! 3-1 Giants.

  47. unca_chuck says:

Cowed ain’t in our vocabulary, Sandy. You should know that by now!

  48. mailorderwife says:

Zito being Zito makes me, you know, feel as if I’m on the Titanic.

  49. mailorderwife says:

    Okay boys….score 5 more runs.

  50. unca_chuck says:

No shit. I’d feel a little safe with a 6 run lead.
    Come on Timmy Jim . . . !

  51. Chico says:

Arias & Pagan! Lets get some more runs!

    • mailorderwife says:

      Don’t forget Whitechark!!!! But PAGAAAAAN!

      • Chico says:

Yep, and another solid inning for Timmy.

        • mailorderwife says:

Timmy is still my very favorite.

For the past seven years, this batshit crazy guy and his mom have been lying and ripping me off. But the one thing I’ve kept, despite those horrible memories, were the Lincecum jersey, two rookie cards and a signed baseball they gave me of Tim’s.

  52. mailorderwife says:

    ARIAS!! Again :>

  53. Chico says:

Pablo just hit one to Cleveland!

  54. xoot says:

Man am I glad Lincecum has come through in this series. As I like to say, don’t ever give up on Lincecum, because he won’t.

Now, with the Lopez and Romo rested and Cain ready to go deep into tomorrow’s game, the Giants are poised for the take away!

  55. mailorderwife says:

Okay boys…win one for the guy next to you and the Californians who are trying to find a bar open at breakfast time.

  56. unca_chuck says:

Timmy showed some major league huevos yesterday. For all the bullshit with him and Buster, and whatever the weirdness is with the front office, he came through in spades. AND he put himself back into the rotation IF we move on.

    • mailorderwife says:

Do we know what the BS is between Buster and Timmy? And what is the front office thing? Is that the bowtie dude leaving stuff? Enquiring minds are nosy!

      • xoot says:

Tim and Neukom were pretty close, I believe. (Hell, Lincecum started wearing bow ties with his suits in 2010.) Neukom, one of the most prominent lawyers in the State of Washington (as Microsoft’s former GCounsel) attended the backwater WA court hearing on Lincecum’s pot bust. You didn’t see Larry Baer there.

  57. mailorderwife says:

    Whitechark and Crawford!!! YAY!!!

  58. sandy32koufax says:

    Well, 2 zip Jints…

  59. sandy32koufax says:

  60. mailorderwife says:

    OMG POSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  61. shaman138 says:

Hey, now. I’m back. Busy day and week but just thought I’d stop by to say…

  62. xoot says:

I’m following the game on the computer again. Luckily, there are a couple of other Giants fans in the office doing the same. We all roared at the Grand Slam. Take that, Latos! Now let’s see Cain shine.

  63. Chico says:

    Oh yeah!

  64. unca_chuck says:

Buster!!! MVP!!! Shit, Matt Settle down.

  65. xoot says:

Can’t start a shut down inning with a HBP. Still, he left Phillips on 2B. Maybe the Giants will get some extra insurance runs now.

  66. Chico says:

    Posey! K-throw him out DP!

  67. unca_chuck says:

Jesus, Dusty gave us an out there. And Bochy was crazy to leave Matt in. Hey, it worked, but Christ. Jumpstart my heart.

  68. sandy32koufax says:

    Later guys…Sandy has to work…boohoo

    Go Reds!

    • mailorderwife says:

We know in our hearts that you meant “Go Giants!” It’s all about California love.

    • shaman138 says:

I can’t hate on Sandy for being on the dark side for this because I’m ready for a Big Blue win on Sunday against the 49ers. Go Giants and Giants!

  69. Chico says:

    Whew. Good job Jeremy.

  70. shaman138 says:

    I need a drink. Never-ending torture.

  71. mailorderwife says:

One or two more security runs please!

  72. shaman138 says:

Phew….three more outs. Another Jamieson on the rocks, please.

  73. Chico says:

    Fuck yeah!!!! Cheers!

  74. mailorderwife says:

  75. shaman138 says:

YES! YES! That was torture to the extreme. Whew…now I can finish my day at work and relax. Good God, I can’t beleive we did it. After the first two games, especially game 2, I though we were done. We actually did the impossible and came back and swept a good Reds team in their house. Wow! Cheers, amigos! Now if the Giants can do the impossible then maybe the Raiders will win the AFC West………..uh, better not get too carried away.

  76. Chico says:

I’m hoping JDR or someone else can write the next blog post for the NLCS. If not, I’d be more than happy to do so. We got time to figure it out.

  77. shaman138 says:

Here’s something for a good laugh on a cold, drizzly night. Hahaha…Giants paid this punk back in spades. Revenge is OURS!

    • mailorderwife says:

Latos’ wife tweeted something like “…this isn’t the 2010 Padres…” yesterday. Today, she was inundated with congratulatory tweets from Giants fans. LOL
