AyyyyyJayyyyyyyyy Jenkins

Trent Baalke said he had his guy, and that he’d be there. I guess that wasn’t just posturing, the Niners selected AJ Jenkins in a pick that just about nobody saw coming.

The book on Jenkins is that he’s a smallish guy (6’0 190)  with pretty good receiving skills and speed that nobody but the Niners seemed to see. That they were so determined to take him says they really think he’ll be special. After the Aldon Smith deal last year.

Plus whenever he makes a catch we get to do this…

Too funny whatever the hell that is . . .

    • JDR says:

The premise is that it is a group of world of warcraft players who are all very serious about the game and going through a detailed plan, except for the guy whose character is Leeroy Jenkins, he’s away from the computer getting some food while they’re doing their careful planning (hence the “at least I’ve got chicken”) then as soon as he gets back he does the yell and just runs into the room, destroying the plan. People have actually gone as far as to relate the story to business strategy- he may have taken the dumb risk and lost, but at least he has chicken.

We were driving home last evening through our quiet little slice of heaven and BOOM, there is a PCSAT HD truck in front of our neighbors house!

Turns out they are the grandparents of Doug Martin, the 29th pick in last night’s first round of the 2012 NFL draft. Kid is a nice guy and as stud RB.

Makes me wonder why the 49ers didn’t grab a guy like him with Gore pushing it in NFL years…

BTW, Jenkins had a relatively low skills/speed/coordination rating from the combine…under 80 pts.
Harbaugh must believe in Harbaugh or, like you say JD, he sees what no one else seems to be seeing.

  3. sandy32koufax says:

OOPS…I JUST saw that SF took LaMichael James…okay…I’m a yutz…

  4. unca_chuck says:

    I was gonna say. . .

  5. xoot says:

My older son, who grew up a to be a fierce fan of both the Giants and 49ers, stopped by today. While we watched Pagan hit yet another HR, he raised some questions about drafting the running back from Oregon. Well, Harbaugh seems to think he can control and coach anyone. Randy Moss? Bring him in. Some thug from Oregon with huge talent? Bring him in. What else can you say? Only this, I guess: Harbaugh surrounds himself with really smart people. They plotted these draft selections. It’ll be interesting.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Well, these are football players, not choir boys. Moss’s transgressions are long past. His attitude? Well that’s the million $ question. There’s a distinct possibility Moss never plays a down. He was signed on the cheap to a one year deal. They won;t hesitate to ditch that idea if he goes south.

James? I’m sure Harbaugh had a lot to do with taking him, as he faced him a bunch of times. One scrape with the law does not a thug make. The hope is he doesn’t turn into Lawrence Philips.

    • xoot says:

James beat up his girlfriend and pleaded guilty. Nice scrape with the law. And he got his shot in the Oregon backfield because the guy ahead of him got suspended for assault and battery he committed while on national tv. The Oregon program, fueled by Nike money, has joined the worst of the worst. Anyone with athletic talent has a shot on that team. Does Harbaugh see something more than a typical Oregon thug in James? Apparently so. Harbaugh has the information he needs to make that call.

  7. JDR says:

I think it’s more Baalke and Marathe, though Harbaugh has to sign off on them as well. They seem to take measured risks; guys that had one or two run-ins (Boone, Morgan) which could be chalked up to being young and stupid. They’ve also shown that they have little tolerance for guys who want to cause trouble at the pro level (Braylon Edwards) in any form. James did earn a degree from the University of Oregon, so he can’t be a complete fuck-up.

    • Chico says:

I didn’t know about his spat with the law, but LaMichael James moved high schools to avoid a standardized test (from TX to ARK), Arkansas didn’t require it to be eligible for college. I’m pretty sure that’s not abnormal these days, but he did graduate. Not sure what in though. It’s common knowledge that athletes @ Oregon get a lot of their work done for them, too, and they’re not alone. I hate the Ducks.

  8. xoot says:

Lincecum is one tough guy. Good game.

  9. unca_chuck says:

No D I college program is above reproach. Chuck Muncie regularly missed classes to get stoned. He had a bong collection rivaling any head shop. At Cal. A school with supposed academic standards. Shit goers on everywhere.

    Here’s James’ court record, FWIW:

    http://www.scribd.com/theoregonian/d/28271575-LaMichael-James-Sentencing-Memorandum

Amazing what’s out there in cyberspace.

    • sandy32koufax says:

      Amazing is one term…

    • xoot says:

That’s the DA’s explanation for the plea bargain deal. May or may not reflect the full facts. Women assaulting men is pretty common during heated arguments. If the assault is ineffectual (a slap, a yanked chain necklace, etc.), there’s no excuse for a man, especially a trained athlete, to retaliate with physical violence. As to bongs in the dorms — how the hell else are you going to deal with the aches and pains of a tough game — with some addictive pills?

      • Chico says:

Which is why we call him Chuck Munchie. . . Kids are going to be kids when it comes to pot at college. I didn’t know many who didn’t burn back then (hell, most folks I know still do, or at least are cool with it). That’s a whole different deal than violence. . I’m not a religious man but I do believe in forgiveness though. Welcome to the team LaMichael. .

        • xoot says:

Yeah, I hate the Oregon program not every Oregon player. The culture of the program doesn’t much promote good citizenship. And we all know that the frontal lobe isn’t completely engaged until a brain gets to be about 21. I have no problem with Harbaugh’s choice. I hope the kid develops into a great NFL running back.

After another banishment I am officially finished with the Splash. I’ll still check in to see what is said and report abuse on the sickos who love to spew their racist hate speech but there’s no point in making another handle. Good win today, Bum is a stud. Enjoy your Sunday evening folks.

    • Chico says:

You got banned? That place is fucked up. Email VK?

    • xoot says:

FC — we’ll all be banned pretty soon. And I basically agree. Why bother any more?

      • sandy32koufax says:

VK could actually give a shit. Like MOB says, he is underpaid and aspires to a higher position.

That said, FC, if you don’t choose to go back on there I get it. The Merc is a better environment…or a private blog…hmm, where would a fella go to a cool private blog 😉 ?

  11. Chico says:

Just heard LaMicheal interviewed on the Tolbert & Doosh show. I was impressed. He’s still going to school to get his degree and was very well spoken. Said that players are one hit away from falling back on their degree… Sounds like he’s turned himself around, or hit the inevitable maturity wall that hits us all at different ages.

  12. filthychangeup says:

Xoot, your skewering of Mossbrain is a joy to read. The guy couldn’t hold your laptop bag. It’s further hilarious to read the comments he gets on the Dumbeat, talk about oblivious, no one likes that guy. If I haden’t exhausted my email accounts I would make a new SFGate handle called “Mossbrain” and use a Chia head as an avatar. Nice 11-6 loss there AAA’s.

    • xoot says:

Posters like moss and sluts/mac want to be respected for skill they just don’t possess. They post to assert themselves. Generally, they fail, and then get pissed off. Neither of them could relax and enjoy a blog like this, where the posters are both confident writers and interested readers. And, yeah, I have to admit I enjoyed watching the end of that AAA’s/Boston game last night. I never felt this polarization between Giants and A’s fans until after 2010. Now, the hostility from some A’s fans is just white-hot.

  13. unca_chuck says:

I don’t have a scorecard, so I don’t know who’s who from here to there.

I get Chico/Chico State . . . ! JDR, but I’m not sure who you guys are over there.

I go over there mainly to see who’s being the biggest douchebag. Especially after a good game, or a nice comeback. Or when you guys relate some particularly stupid post over there . . . Frankly, it ain’t worth the time or effort. When the people that nominally run it don’t give a flying fuck about who posts and why, or bother to control the shittier elements of it, then they get what they get. And that’s a blog full of trolls who drown out any meaningful discussions. It WAS better when it was pretty much unmoderated back about 4 years ago. The more normal people were able to self-police the place. Now it’s lunatics running the asylum. Fuck it.

  14. filthychangeup says:

I was Mattalac, MattalacII, TheMattalac, and then FilthyChangeup. I’ve exhausted my email accounts and don’t see the point in creating a new email just to make another Splash handle that will inevitably be banned. I tried to be subtle with my responses to the trolls with my FC handle but eventually I couldn’t help but rip into the them. The same will undoubtedly happen if I create another account. Still, I’d love to create a “Mosshead” handle with a Chia head as the avatar. It still gives me satisfaction to report abuse and have Moss, Sluts, Mollie’s comments removed.

    • sandy32koufax says:

Do it…ura funny dude and they are BOOBS. On the other hand, I’m of the opinion that they LOVE the attention. I try to not respond to them unless they are in attack mode.

  15. unca_chuck says:

Who are you, Xoot? You used to post over there as Xoot, but either your comments are popped before I get to read them or you are posting w/a different name.

  16. Chico says:

I just sent VK a very detailed email. . We’ll see how he responds but until then, Chuck is right. I’m done with that place. The trolls have won. . . Just like the terrorists have won. Hey, we tried. No shame in that. The Splash is dead to me, and I will comment on it no more, forever.

    • filthychangeup says:

      What did you say Chico?

      • Chico says:

Basically that the blog has been taken over by trolls, that Giants fans are outnumbered 4-1, that my friends get their comments deleted and their accounts blocked and the moderating sucks.

He sent me a nice but very short email that Hearst has their own rules as to who gets censored etc. but that he would talk to his superiors. Doesn’t sound hopeful, but more emails from people would certainly help. Until I see an improvement I won’t comment on the splash anymore. I’ll be here.

        • shaman138 says:

Yeah, right….he won’t do anything except continue to allow his Drumbomeat minions to run that blog into the ground.

  17. Chico says:

    RIP Junior Seau. Wow.

  18. shaman138 says:

Just look at today’s sfgate front page and see how truly right-wing, reactonary, and sensational that lame excuse of a newspaper really is. The Chronk has always been right-wing but sfgate is clearly all about getting clicks for online ad revenue and, for whatever reason, they feel that idiot trolls and wingnuts bring in advertising money for them, so they’ll put out a hysterical, reactionary slant to their stories to get those clicks.. Their disgusting coverage of yesterday’s protests is rivalled only by their constant disgusting pandering to SF’s real estate industry by pandering high-end houses on the front page every fucking day. It’s a joke and VK is an avid hater of the Giants who most assuredly is involved with the fuckery happening on the Splash. The thumb spamming and “freeping” is a whole different story, but, like I said, the ‘gate welcomes and encourages that nonsense because they feel it brings in the bucks.

  19. sandy32koufax says:

Does anyone know who “worstnightmare” is?

I just got an invitation from that screenname

    • Chico says:

He’s legit. One of our old friends.

Post more here Sandy. It says a lot about someone (Dodger fan) who can interact with Giants fans in a friendly manner!

  20. shaman138 says:

Check out Mollie’s comment on this story….these fuckers don’t even care about one sports team or another, they’re just sociopathic losers looking for attention. http://blog.sfgate.com/sportsevents/2012/05/02/former-nfl-star-junior-seau-found-dead/

    • Chico says:

      Saw that earlier. Professional T-roll.

    • xoot says:

mollie is a very strange guy. I thought for a while he was WBB, but the guide-book updater usually tries to get literary. mollie just trolls. He has no other goal.

So how many innings will Zito go tonight? He needs better control than he’s shown so far, in the first inning, if he wants to keep the score close.

  21. Chico says:

    RISP… We’re sucking right now.
