Don’t look now, but that’s another series win…

A sweep of the doubleheader in New York, and suddenly the Giants are in 2nd place, just 3.5 games behind Mr April and the rest of a Dodger team playing out of their minds. Once they cool down (and play some teams with winning records) that lead should evaporate pretty quickly.

Timmy was better, but still not himself. He might be out of “what the hell?” territory, but he’s far from his old self. Lopez has also looked less than encouraging, though that seems to be a case of missing his spots more than anything else.

Meanwhile, Bumgarner remains absolutely lights-out, and even with Timmy working out the yips him and Cain are already scaring the hell out of the other playoff contenders.

There’s still a long way to go between now and October, but you have to like their chances a whole lot more than you did one week ago.

Yeah, with Matty taking the mound today, things are looking up. The defense is shoring up nicely after some early jitters. Burriss and Crafword were eerily reminiscent of Speier and Fuentes back in the day. If they can just keep Huff off the field . . .

  2. xoot says:

Huff should get traded mid-season, a la Benji, but he doesn’t deserve to be the whipping boy, especially when they’re winning.

The month of May is crucial. Look at that schedule — dodgers and Rockies and Cards, DBacks twice, along with the Marlins and Brewers twice. Luckily, Oakland stops by for a series, as well. The combination of offense and pitching and D they’re playing right now could win every series in May. Then they’d be off and running. . . .

Good to hear Kuip refer to the old Jane Russell bra commercial slogan of “..lift and separate…”

  4. Chico says:

2 zip Reds… Lets get some runs. BTW, just looked at the other place, more deleted comments. What a joke.

  5. xoot says:

Henry’s twitter feed is smokin hot with indignation over the blown foul-tip call from the minor-league umpire who’s filling in. I guess it preceded the HR? (I’m still at work, checking in via the computer).

Over on the other place, in a reply thread, VK posted a comment in support of one of Mollie’s passive-aggressive taunts about Posey’s injury. Once again, he mentioned his Stanford alumni status. I responded, noting that Stanford guys and A’s fans apparently are free to act like trolls on the blog. I would say my days on that site are numbered.

Well, I spoke my mind. . . And now a Giants loss is the LEAD story, front page. Holy shit. Of all the things wrong in the world, a Giants loss is more important than mad cow disease, oil spills, deficits, the demise of the middle class, social security, the MIC, medicare, war drums etc. . Ha! What a gig.

    • mailorderwife says:

I don’t think VK dictates what at goes on the front page. That is usually the domain of an editor (the newspaper kind). For instance, I may get run of the entertainment section, but the front story stuff is determined by someone high up — and they usually go with the stories that will be read. Hence, no A’s stories. Har.

Good morning MOW. . You’re right, I was just venting. The last time I’ll complain about that place. Lost cause.

        • mailorderwife says:

No…venting is cool. VK has ruined my posting experience for me over there. He is inconsistent and drives away traffic to the paper at a time when most papers are struggling for page visits. If I did that at my job, I would get fired.

      • xoot says:

I have no idea how they break it down, but the Chronicle front page is completely different than sfgate’s always changing front page — and VK is definitely in charge of “news” on sfgate.

  7. Chico says:

Arias up, who knows what’s up with Huff but I like the move. We’re short handed on the infield (Cap’t obvious). . .400 with two homers and 17 RBIs in 18 games for the Grizzlies… Has Cabrera had a game off besides when he got pulled early in the first game of the double header? He can probably use day off in the near future.

    • xoot says:

I heard Henry S. on the radio during ST praising Arias. He can play SS, if Crawford needs to rest his elbow today. His numbers in Fresno sure make it look like he’s ready for his big league shot.

      • Chico says:

Pagan cf, Cabrera lf, Sandoval 3b, Posey 1b, H Sanchez c, Schierholtz rf, Burriss 2b, Crawford ss, Zito p

I’m guessing he didn’t get to Cinci in time. . According to Hank, he was notified last night. Who knows.

Incidentally, for you soccer fans out there, the Real Madrid-Byern Munich semi-final match going on right now is an instant classic–one of the best soccer matches (so far) I’ve seen in a long time. An equally matched, aggressive, well-played game to determine who moves on to the Barcalona-less champions league final to crush Chelsea.

    • Chico says:

      What channel?

      Edit: found it.

I’m a semi Chelsea fan (read a great book that turned me on to soccer & Chelsea).. Casual fan, but I like it better than Hockey and the NBA.

      • shaman138 says:

Yeah, the two Spanish power-house teams favored to be in the final choked hard…and now we have Chelsea-Byern Munich….in Germany. Who’d have thunk it?

  9. mailorderwife says:

I guess Huff Huff Huff is out on the 15-day disabled list for anxiety. I hope he works it out.

SFDF – I crashed to blue screen.

  10. xoot says:

Aubrey Huff on the DL with an “anxiety disorder” — first thing his psychotherapist should tell him is, don’t look at the beat writers’ blogs.

  11. Chico says:

    Divorce.

    • mailorderwife says:

Is he really going through a divorce?

      • Chico says:

Apparently his wife filed last month. That’s rough.

        • xoot says:

I saw one report saying that she filed at the end of January and that the court proceedings have been ongoing. Once you’re mired in the family-law process, you’re in deep shit. In general (there are a few exceptions, but not many) the lawyers are terrible and the judges often are worse. (In most California counties, new judges get assigned to family law and transfer as soon as possible.) A nasty lawyer in Florida could cause all sorts of trouble for a guy busy travelling out of state, trying to do his job.

          • Chico says:

Look what happened to Hulk Hogan. . . His wife was cheating on him with an 18 year old kid in Clearwater Florida (Tampa), broke his heart and he tried getting his marriage back together (he forgave her) and she still ran around town with the 18 year old flaunting him just to get to Hulk. And she took him to the cleaners in the end. I’m no fan of wrestling but I read a great article about the divorce.

For the record, it would have been just as shitty IMO if he did that to her. I also read that He would have been better off if he got married in another state. Floriad is not the place to tie the knot, apparently.

  12. Chico says:

If you’re going to venture over to the other place, don’t bother. I have never seen so much hate in my life. . . Call it a day.

    • Chico says:

“BrianWilson38 Surgery was perfect. Borrowed ligament from my ol’ pal Sasquatch. Only side effects: hairy arm and I talk like a wookie bit.ly/JHg9lF” Dude cracks me up.

  13. Chico says:

SFDF, where are you? Don’t be a stranger brother.

  14. shaman138 says:

Dear God, the Splash is a nightmare tonight. That is one shitty excuse of a Giants blog. What the fuck is it about a Giants blog that attracts so much childish, hateful craziness? SFGate needs to clean up its comment boards….like they ever will.

    • sandy32koufax says:

They ”cleaned up” my comments and mine were not in violation…hate that fuck caliente and VK can jump off the bridge as far as I’m concerned…

  15. mailorderwife says:

    Well, gentlemen….

Behave and have a wonderful two weeks. I hope the Giants go on a legit winning streak so they will lift spirits. Otherwise, screw the SFBlog. Nothing to see. Move along and don’t pay attention to the nerd behind the curtain.

Cheers and I’ll see y’all when I get back from the JPN.

  16. Chico says:

    We needed that! Cheers!
