Is the Niners biggest competition in the West… the Niners?

Not much to complain about. A huge win over Tampa (might have to re-think that ‘West Coast Killers’ mantra) and aside from Morgan’s broken ankle things are looking pretty damn good.

It’s only week 5, but as of right now it looks like there’s a fairly clear path to the NFC West title. St Louis is in a big hole, and Seattle and Arizona don’t look to have their QB issues solved quite as well as originally thought. So… is the division now the 49ers to lose?

Personally, I think we need a few more division games to decide that, and division games aren’t scheduled until the later part of the season. So we may actually be entering something of a period of limbo here. In theory, the Niners could lose every non-division game from here out, take down St Louis, Seattle and the Cards and still make the playoffs.

Still, no complaints about 4-1. With the early victories, they’ve got a nice cushion, and it has been quite a while since we could say that about this team.

Yes, quite an impressive win today. They really shouldn’t have any problem winning the NFC west unless they mysteriously find a way to collapse against their putrid rivals. I don’t see that happening. Meanwhile, it looks like, once again, the Raiders’ biggest competition this season isn’t any of the other teams but the NFL referees. Today’s officiating was borderline scandalous and I’m getting sick of that bullshit happening week in and week out and then getting swept under the rug because it’s just the “Raiders”. But…a win is a win. RIP Al and Go Raiders.

Harbaugh has these guys believing. Agreed that we need some more games under our belt VS or division to get a clearer picture about the post season. This is the first time in a long time where the 9ers are actually executing plays.

The most impressive thing to me was the time Alex had, and the OL 10-15 years downfield blocking for Gore and Hunter. I love smash-mouth football, mix it up with a west coast offense and I’m stoked.

At this point they’ve won 3 games outside the division. I don;t think the other teams are going to match that. Although I will say, the NY Giants did us no favors by knocking Tavaris Jackson out of the game. Whitehurst is a much better QB, and could get Seattle on track.

I’m just now getting back into football. The Harbaugh Niners have me interested. I dropped my older kid off at the Emeryville train station yesterday morning, to head back to school, and he was decked out in his 52 Willis, etc., already to listen to the game during his ride home. Meanwhile, people were flowing in off the trains from Sacramento in their 16 and 8 and cetera jerseys, yelling as they finished one more leg of their trip to the game. I don’t think i’ve seen this much 9er spirit in quite a while. Very impressive. It’s got me interested again. (My alienation started with Erickson and went downhill from there.)

btw, little Jahvid Best of Cal is making a name for himself, huh?

Best won’t be his best this next game. Seattle could make this interesting, but I don’t think they do as well as SF has outside the div. At least at this point. Plus we already have a head-to-head win. Barring injuries, these guys should win by 3 games.

  6. We made an offer on a great property in Chabot, right next to the Golf Course…it was accepted…over an acre and an awesome Ranch House!

Hit me up on gmail, those that have it…party coming…and NO!, not a shitty ‘house-warming’…

The thing that makes me think the 49ers are nearly a cinch to go to the playoffs is that Harbaugh doesn’t make mistakes. He’s got the 49ers winning the games they SHOULD win. This is the first time since Walsh / Seifert that I can remember the 49ers outcoaching their opponents. It’s a far cry from the Nolantary niners. The Josh Morgan injury aside, they should walk away with the division.

Sandy, congrats on your house! Use caution when posting personal info here…

Leaving SF behind, Sandy? Understandable–sooner or later, even a die-hard city boy like myself is going to want to live somewhere with trees and open space. I love living in the Haight-Ashbury but I visit friends out in the Lafayette/Orinda area and I’m wondering what it would be like to live there–almost like country living but convenient and accessible to BART, etc.

Just got back from Japan, where I did a jig at the Shinagawa train station as I learned of the 49ers win v. the Eagles. News was hard to come by, but I was even more thrilled to learn that the Pillies have been eliminated.

I hope everyone is well. Look forward to more comments on this week’s game. Hope they don’t lose because I’m home.

If it was even possible, the Trash has become an even bigger joke of a blog than it was before. Nipper is right–it’s pretty much just a small handful of people (Wayne, Jim, etc.) with multiple accounts trying to get their kicks being weird internet trolls…..and I think they’re doing it on the Raiders’ blogs, too. Fucking freaks.

Speaking of Raiders, I am shocked to hear that Al Davis died. Didn’t find that one out until I came home. I guess that while Steve Jobs is big news in the ol’ JP, Al Davis wasn’t.

Raiders aren’t doing too poorly either. It would be nice if both bay football clubs did well this season.

    Tough game tonight.

  12. shaman138 says:

The Bears looked hideous last night…they let the motherfucking Blowjans run all over them (literally and figuratively) once again. Whatever USC has been doing wrong lately they still find a way to own Cal. Goddamnit. Well, here’s to a Raiders romp over the Cleveland Clowns and a 49er win over the Detroit Kitties.

Evening everyone, anyone else watching the NLCS? Go Brewcrew!

I hope the Cards go…and kick them like the Jints did last year…
