Suddenly, starting pitching is an issue

As of right now, Surkamp is not looking like the answer, and with Vogelsong looking at a huge free agent pay day, it might be time to look at the rotation. Assuming Zito continues to fill space on the roster, it’s looking to be Lincecum, Bumgarner, Cain, Sanchez, Zits and one open spot.

So who is the #5? If Vogelsong is dumb enough to give a hometown discount I’ll take it, but the smart money is that he will look to the free agent market to catch a premium on his career year. I could easily see a team forking out Bronson Arroyo money to let him spend the next few years pitching .500 ball for a marginal team.

So, assuming Vogelsong leaves, who takes the last spot in the rotation? Is there a guy in the minors you like? A pending free agent who won’t break the bank? Another Vogelsong who may slip through the cracks?

    Zito’s pitching. Hard liquor, anyone?

  2. lasttraintoyuma says:

Are you trying to make us depressed, thinking about how Wheeler is a Met?

  3. Chico says:

If Vogelsong bolts, then I would think a free agent would have to fill the 5 spot. I’m at a disadvantage on this topic because I don’t pay attention to the minor leagues to be honest.

  4. lasttraintoyuma says:

I’m fine with Sanchez and Zito. Pitching is not the issue with the Giants. They won the World Series with exactly that rotation.

  5. xoot says:

They need to resign Vogelsong and dump Zito at the same spot where Rowand is waiting for a ride. The 5 will have to emerge. Surkamp might get wiser and give em a year or two of Lowryesque work.

By the way, who was it who ran BarryForever, giantsrock, dwarfman to ground as Wayne B? You would think the guy would vanish for a while now.

Hey, I also just saw the posts on the end of the last JDR thread. I don’t think any laws prohibit exchanging information about websites, etc., that may relate to a troll on the splash. But part of your agreement with WordPress may prohibit use of the blog for certain purposes, and . . . . So why push it? This blog supersedes the trolls.

  7. lasttraintoyuma says:

Well, WBB does have a public blog and posts his e-mail, photo, and personal bio online. Thanks to spokeo.com, it’s very easy to find where the guy lives, even. I respect JDR’s wish to keep this blog out of it, though.

The whole thing illustrates why it’s a very dangerous idea to give out too much of your personal information when you’re trolling sites. The truth eventually comes out and you don’t want enemies out there.

I think I’m the very last Giants fan who doesn’t have any hatred for Zito. Wouldn’t bother me if he came back at all.

  9. lasttraintoyuma says:

I guess I should restate that as “Wouldn’t bother me at all if he came back”.

  10. xoot says:

I’ve given up on Zito. And I don’t give up on players easily.
As to the splash troll — it’s almost as though he’s begging for punishment. Very weird guy.

  11. lasttraintoyuma says:

He’s bizarre to the point of being a sociopath. He stays in character at all times. Barryforever got 7 or 8 thumbs up for EVERY post. The new one never gives thumbs up and only occasionally doles out a thumbs down. He knows that we all know who he is and he’s terrible at disguising his persona, so it’s really odd that he insists on trying to stay in character.

  12. lasttraintoyuma says:

Trying to push the right buttons to get him to leave again is becoming a fun game to me.

Good shit Yuma. Did you used to post on the Splash under a different username? I’m only asking because you are a welcome addition, anyone is who isn’t a troll.

Ugly created this place for us when the Splash went ape-shit.. Deleted comments, thumbs downing and upping etc.. I mean that place is a fucking joke..
