These days watching the Giants is well… less than encouraging. Tonight it was a 7-0 loss to the Cubs, a team which has been phoning it in since late March. It’s not much fun these days, but it could be worse.
They could be the Dodgers.
Pablo may be hurting, but at least he’s not on record as saying that the coaching staff is making him limp out there every day rather than get the surgery he needs. Lincecum may be getting bined by poor run support, but at least he’s not a lone ace toiling away as the only bright spot in an otherwise desolate staff. Wilson may have damage to his elbow, but, well… Broxton.
And then there’s management. For all the gripes about Sabean, Ned is looking like everything that’s wrong with Sabean and nothing that’s right. And then of course, there’s the ownership. The Giants are run by a group comprised of successful business owners committed to maintaining a successful and financially sound franchise in San Francisco. The Dodgers have the couple from “War of the Roses” in the owner’s box.
So yeah, when the dregs of the NL Central are padding their records on the Giants and Arizona hasn’t lost since the last congressional election, we can at least take solace in one ever-present comforting truth.
They’re not the Dodgers.
