At least they’re not the Dodgers

These days watching the Giants is well… less than encouraging. Tonight it was a 7-0 loss to the Cubs, a team which has been phoning it in since late March. It’s not much fun these days, but it could be worse.

They could be the Dodgers.

Pablo may be hurting, but at least he’s not on record as saying that the coaching staff is making him limp out there every day rather than get the surgery he needs. Lincecum may be getting bined by poor run support, but at least he’s not a lone ace toiling away as the only bright spot in an otherwise desolate staff. Wilson may have damage to his elbow, but, well… Broxton.

And then there’s management. For all the gripes about Sabean, Ned is looking like everything that’s wrong with Sabean and nothing that’s right. And then of course, there’s the ownership. The Giants are run by a group comprised of successful business owners committed to maintaining a successful and financially sound franchise in San Francisco. The Dodgers have the couple from “War of the Roses” in the owner’s box.

So yeah, when the dregs of the NL Central are padding their records on the Giants and Arizona hasn’t lost since the last congressional election, we can at least take solace in one ever-present comforting truth.

They’re not the Dodgers.

The Splash is infested and the censors are deleting anything that sounds reasonable. At least the Doomers will be hung over tomorrow.

  2. Chico says:

Love it! I feel better reading the new blog post. Thanks Doc 🙂

  3. Later kids…I’m off tomorrow and have a date with the third barstool from the corner at Kristi’s…

  4. mailorderwife says:

I remember the days when a successful season meant finishing ahead of the Dodgers.

    YAHOO!!!

  5. shaman138 says:

Man, it’s hard to feel good about the team’s chances this morning. Flavor basically called it over on the Flap–they have to win the next five or the season’s over.

    • mailorderwife says:

There was a game in July when the Giants came back to win an impossible game. I remember telling my friend that I felt that this would be the year the Giants would finaly win the WS, and he agreed.

Yesterday, the eternal optimist in me just sighed a little. Great season, anyway, if not a bit disappointing. I’m still waiting for better days, though. There is a whole month left to recover some of that ground.

Still, I really regret the Beltran trade. I hope he comes back next year, as having him in the lineup with Posey and Sanchez would be awesome. It’s a pipe dream buoyed on by my disappointment at giving up a young, promising prospect for a rental.

On Sunday, the crowd went silent in the top of the 8th. Everyone had been roaring after Huff smoked that liner off the bricks in the bottom of the 7th. But the scoreboard showed AZ’s victory. The crowd was still loud, but noticeably tense. The 8th inning started with a single, then a strikeout, and then a truly bad luck HBP — the Astro sub, Corporan didn’t make any effort to get out of the way of the low and inside pitch. He moved the lead runner to 2B. Strikeout came next, however, and the crowd was back into it, urging Cain to put the Astros away. Then the single, with two outs and the runner going — and the tying run scored. That was the moment. The sudden silence of 42,000 people was ineffable. At that moment, everyone of us adknowledged that the division championship is in dire jeopardy, and that it’s gonna take something akin to a miracle now.

So — I look at it this way. If they pull it off again, those of us still watching and rooting will get a helluva payoff.

I’m really trying to keep the faith but that cup that looked half full is looking more and more empty. I’m at the point now that Im trying to relish what little of the season remains. I continue to hold onto hope that something dramatic will snap them out of their funk and turn things around right in the nick of time. I followed last nights game hoping it was the moment, that they’d win in the face of impossible odds, alas. I can’t help but play the guessing game, what if we still had Freddy? I think we’d have won ten more games at least. I will say again how grateful I am of JDR as visiting the Sploosh is like pouring salt in my wounds.

    • Chico says:

We should all give JDR a round of applause for creating this alternate forum which will now be my permanent bog spot for all things Giants and 9ers.

I just went and looked at the Crash… Just about every one of sanfrandodgerfans comments were deleted and his profile is now under review (he will soon be blocked for no reason at all). My comments were deleted, MOB’s, shamans, the troll, matt’s, some of xoots, and maybe even some of nippers.. Fuck that place.

      • I just went to sign into my gate acct and I got the following warning:

“Your profile information contains inappropriate content and has been hidden by our staff. Once you update your profile settings, we’ll be happy to take a look and reinstate your profile.”

I need an assist from you guys or my acct will be axed…there is nothing in my profile that is offensive and I haven’t altered it from what it was four years ago…

        vk@sfgate.com is a good starting point-Thanks everyone

    • xoot says:

I agree. JDR’s blog is a wonderful place.

  8. Writing from your private email addy is the only way he will get back to you. Any other suggestions as to who to get in touch with besides this guy?

    • Chico says:

      http://www.sfgate.com/feedback/

This is the only other way.. All the way at the bottom of the page under (contact us)

VK is the best bet, he got dsgonzale6 and jackcrabby reinstated and he also reinstated the arbitrarily deleted comments too.

    • xoot says:

      Just got this:

“Mike— It’s confusing because he has two user names and emails, but as far as I can tell, some of his posts were deleted but he’s not blocked.
      “Vlae”

      • Thanks for the effort, ‘Mike-suit’

I have an old acct I dont use…haven’t for a couple of years at least, ‘fogrox’…but my acct has a warning on it that reads:

“Your profile information contains inappropriate content and has been hidden by our staff. Once you update your profile settings, we’ll be happy to take a look and reinstate your profile.”

He has told me my acct is in the clear but the warning persists and I have no idea what content in my profile is ‘inappropriate.’

  9. I am having a two acct email dialogue with him now. He says my acct is not blocked but that is not a reassuring thing to read since my other account was deleted

    • xoot says:

Well, he’s on it, so you should be able to get it straightened out. Good. Get back on the splash occassionally and skewer some doomers.

    • Chico says:

Yeah, well tell him that his censors suck balls and that people have been complaining about this stuff for a long time. That site is no longer about comments, debate or discussion, it’s about how many accounts one can create to go after someone you don’t like. That’s all that site is now.

Last night I delved into the Bachmann thread and while I was in agreement with 99% of the people there, 40% of them were ONE person with 6 different handles.

      • Chico says:

Don’t tell him the first part, I’m just venting. I can’t stand censorship especially when it’s on my hometown paper that’s infested with out of town trolls.

        • LOL, I wouldn’t ‘rat you out,’ chico…

I am being told there is no holds or any other thing ‘wrong’ w/my acct now and that if I should encounter any obstacles in using it to re-contact vk.

          Cool

I also found out I have another acct that is still active which I haven’t used in years…also cool.

          ‘fogrox’ is that acct handle…

Thanks for the input and ya, I mentioned the other idjits abusing the ‘report abuse’ option and he seems well aware of that but unwilling to fuck with their accts

          • Chico says:

Now drop two thumbs down on soph! I dropped two myself.. Haha! That’s good news..

            • Chico says:

Your acct still says under review.. Give it a few hours..

              • Well, I haven’t posted anything yet, that’s next…but my thumbs are working. I am staying off of the Splash, MAYBE, for a day or two until this cools down. I know those tools read this blog surreptitiously so whatever we say here is for all eyes to see…

              • Chico says:

You wan’t more fucking proof of shenanigans on that site?

                http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/contribute/sn/persona?User=dsgonzale6&plckUserId=dsgonzale6

Dan Gonzales is about the nicest dude you could EVER come across. Look at all of that red ink.. The gate did an article on him for christ’s sake! I know the guy, I think you do too sfd.. Pure bullshit..

I’m done talking about that place.. LETS go GIANTS! Lets go NINERS! ROLL ON YOU BEARS!

                • In dsg’s case, it is the out-of-towners that are after him by and large and the ever psychotic veritisimus…but yes

Back to baseball n football!…I feel bad for niner fans this season, not that the Ray-Duhs are looking like they have any defense, again…Rams look to be better but not a contender, so far!

Jints baseball…what do these guys need to do to get back on track? I’ve said this for over a month now but it seems they are so caught up in their individual hitting woes that they are only psyching themselves out more and more and it’s spilling into other areas of their game. I have no idea what a resolution to all of this may be either…

                  Go Bulldogs, buddy…

  10. shaman138 says:

We’re lucky we have this blog–the Splash has been completely co-opted by trolls and Flavor’s blog is way too confrontational for me. I’ve been reading the garbage comments that have been posted on the Splash in the last day or two and I’ve noticed that a lot of them have very similar content. That leads me to believe it’s only a handful of trolls/doombeciles i.e. 2-3 idiots posting all of that crap and going after everyone else by abusing the report abuse feature. Truly fucking sad and bizarre that someone would be so obssessed with a baseball team they don’t even like. And Mollie is just a pathetic little clown.

    • mailorderwife says:

I wonder about people who do this. I mean, my own sister used to like to scam dudes online. She would l go into dating rooms and converse with guys, get them interested and them make them feel stupid for their Asian fetishes. She did this for YEARS, and I thought it was stupid.

It’s no different from these nutjobs who invade the Splash, badmouthing the GIants. What’s the pleasure in it? I thought this was why they made porn.

  11. Unca Chuck says:

Funny thing is, Shaman, you were doing much the same on the Insider not too long ago.

MOW, they do it to get a rise out of people. It’s an attention thing. Having battled V on the Insider for a few years, it just gets stupid when the guy repeats the same crap relentlessly to a changing crowd. The Splash stopped being good about 2 years ago. There are some good people there, but the signal to noise ratio is about 1/50. The Insider is much the same, without the headhunting. Posts don’t disappear neaerly as much there, but I’m not there much at all anymore. V has been banned about 14 times, and he keeps coming back. Usually with a name that sounds similar to the people he berates constantly. He even invaded my blog for a while.

    It ain’t worth it.

    • mailorderwife says:

Well, perhaps they’re also bent. Wasting so much time getting a rise out of people seems like a real issue and, knowing my sister…BENT.

Also, I don’t know what the Insider is. I like Shaman tons, though. Great poster and fan. That’s pretty much all I need to know. My apologies, but I just don’t want any contentiousness to become the de rigeur here.

    • JDR says:

I heard you had a few nutjobs over on that blog, chuck. What happened?

  12. Heck, thanks to everyone who lobbed an email on my behalf…

    and yes…

JDR is where it’s at for what I enjoy about blogging…

I can’t get away from wanting to rank on most of the tools on The Splash though…and like someone said of me on there recently, I’m a better Jints fan than Giants fans are…and I am a Dodgers fan!

  13. shaman138 says:

Come on, now–some of youz guys know I’m a Raider fan but I’m down to play nicely with the Niner fans now. Just look at what happened at that game at the ‘Stick two weeks ago to see how stupid the back-and-forth between fans of the two teams is–there’s no point in bashing the Niners when I’m way too busy hating the fucking Eagles and Patriots. Both Bay Area NFL teams have their issues.

Tonight’s game is basically a must-win….unfortunately, my hopes for this season are fading away.

  14. Have you peeps heard about about this O’Conner woman that embezzeled $1.5M from one or more Jints players accounts? TOOL!

  15. Chico says:

Lets Go Giants! Win or lose, I love my team. Always have and always will.

  16. Jon Miller and Kuiper are calling the game…nice to not hear Krook for a change

  17. Sorianos’ serious jack was as near the Million dollar hit as I have seen since McGwire was here

  18. Chico says:

Wife is working late, bath time for the kiddos.. That was a BOMB Soriano hit, lets hope for some offense.. Check you all out later.

  19. mailorderwife says:

    K Vogie…get out of this.

  20. Del Mar Dennis says:

If you guys and dolls ( my favorite musical, btw) don’t mind, I’ll try blogging here for awhile. If you don’t already know, I’m superstitious as all get-out and will try anything to change my and the team’s luck.

Remember Bochy grabbing the black bat the other night for luck? I’ll start grabbing my own bat for luck. 😀

  21. Del Mar Dennis says:

Shit. Beltran needs to get a new bat. That one must have a hole in it…

  22. mailorderwife says:

    Shut ’em down, Mota.

  23. Del Mar Dennis says:

    OK, we’ve scored 1 run since I’ve posted here…You say superstitious, I say potato scored 1 run…

  24. Fugazi says:

Dave Flambaying is starting to annoy me and that started long before tonight. Where did “Larry bare my nuts” find this clone?

  25. Del Mar Dennis says:

Jesus H. Christ. Someone cut off the head of that Diamondback snake. They keep on slithering and slithering…be honest, who hasn’t taken a shovel to a snake’s head? I can recall doing it thrice in my life.

If it’s not done a fourth time here shortly, someone will have to come and suck the venom outta my wound. And I’ll give ya three guesses where the dirty snake bit me, and the first two don’t count. 😛

  26. JDR says:

Not to be a doomer, but fuck… if they’re going to phone it in at least cut the ticket prices.

    • mailorderwife says:

I passed on playoff tickets this year because they uber jacked up the prices. Not a nice thing to do to a long time season ticket holder. Still, it would be nice if they got to the post-season.

  27. I’m outtie, LA trying to give one back to the Padres…and the Newfs want to bark so it’s definitely ‘walk time’…

    Goodnight everyone…at least for now

  28. Del Mar Dennis says:

So much for my “good luck.” I brought us a run, but I gave up two in the process. And as I type, Rowand K’s swinging. Well, at least I know that the world is still spinning…

  29. Del Mar Dennis says:

Shhhhhh. We have a little rally going on here in the B7. Let’s go down swinging…

  30. mailorderwife says:

Really hope they pull this out. I am dying to play the new Madden but still have it wrapped until the end of the game.

  31. Chico says:

I’m trying to get banned over there..

  32. mailorderwife says:

Oh well :< One more day of this dreaded August, and then onto the 15 game winning streak.

Goodnight, gents! Have a good evening.

  33. Chico says:

Welp, unless we catch lightning in a bottle, no playoffs this year. No matter what happens it was a hell of a season with good memories and bad.. I can’t explain the offense, I have never seen something tank like that before, I mean WTF? I can’t figure it out.

  34. Chico says:

    Although I’m not this bad.

    LOL!

  35. mailorderwife says:

Miguel Tejada to assignmenet? Rowand PACKING UP HIS LOCKER?

    What’s up????

  36. mailorderwife says:

Seems that we DFA’s both Tejada and Rowand. WHEN IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE!

    Bye, toilet boy.

  37. Schulmans’ tweet:

“Sabean will try to trade Rowand, Tejada by 9 pm deadline “so they can continue their careers.”

  38. shaman138 says:

Rowand and Tejada offically DFAd…that’s good news. But the morons on the Splash are finding ways to doom that up, too: “Yeah, well, but it’s too late and won’t do any good”. Fucking losers should go root for the Royals and see how hard it really is to be a baseball. fan.

  39. xoot says:

It’s the day to make moves, and the Giants are making big ones. wtf. Nothing to lose.

I’ve found that it’s possible to doom anything down. Some people are like that at work. When the end of the year rolls around the managers look at a doomer name on the bonus list and say, You know, he’ll be pissed off no matter how much we give him. Let’s take $10K off his bonus and give it to so-and-so. She’ll be thrilled. . . .

  40. JDR says:

Time to pack up, new post!
