Bright side: the last time August sucked this bad…

If there’s any up side to the ungreased fisting that has been the first week of August for the Giants, they looked just as bad last year before they got their shit together and started locking teams down.

The Phillies are cruising to a third victory at AT&T, nicely avenging the July series at Citizens Bank Ballpark and Medium-security Correctional Facility. Meanwhile, Arizona is failing to take advantage of a Dodger team that can’t wait for the season to be over.

We all knew this was going to be a tough stretch for the Giants. If they can get through it with first place still in hand, I think everyone will feel better about their chances of getting back into the playoffs. And come October, nobody is going to want to get into a seven game series with the Giants pitching staff, even if the hitting continues to completely suck (which it won’t. I hope.)

That said, it’s hard to keep a positive attitude when the team can’t seem to figure out how to get a guy past second base. Someone needs to heat up…

Huff? He’s sucked all year. Now would be a good time to even out those numbers. Schierholtz? Dude has been on the brink for a while now. Carrying the team for a few games would go a long ways toward a permanent spot in the starting lineup. Beltran? They did give up a potential ace for the bastard. It would be nice if he could bother to show up and do his job.

  1. Good assessment but let’s keep it real, Hamels is throwing smoke and awesome junk today

  2. FuckJames says:

Don’t you just “love” these Filly trolls that were MIA after we won 2of3 in their house?

  3. These loses suck, but there’s two months left in the season, anything can happen. Philly Jim is a trip, Huff to Fresno…… Jim needs AA!

  4. JDR says:

Nice shot from Pablo. At least someone is swinging. Now if two or three people join him maybe they can get back in step.

    • There were several hard hit shots by Cabrerra and Rowand…but they went right at people…these guys maybe need to start a yoga class or join Timmeh and enjoy a bowl of green

      • JDR says:

They’ve been hitting balls hard at people all season. Maybe they’ll start falling down the stretch. And maybe Maker’s Mark will offer me that six-figure taste-testing job.

Beltran will start producing. Pablo may stay hot forever. Cain looked good today. That’s about it, for now, but it’s something to build on. You gonna have a new thread going for tomorrow’s game?

  6. Funny you mention MM, I’ve been trying, for years, to get a job at Laphroiag…in any capacity.

I was being serious about them doing something for their mental outlook, btw

  7. I’m out…house party/bbq…later ugly and matt

  8. mailorderwife says:

    Ooo boy! New house :>

Yeah..our boys aren’t doing so hot, but Phils are playing very very well. I hope our boys can pull it out tomorrow to go for a series split. Hope hope.

  9. mailorderwife says:

Oh…and would it be alright to invite Bird33 and some RL friends?

    • JDR says:

Absolutely. Sandy has done a great job of prodding me, but the more people we have here the better the conversation is and the easier it is to put up new posts.

Sorry for taking some time to get new comments up. It seems your first few posts have to be manually approved.

  10. Well, reset your posting controls to allow free posting and self-deletions, instant karma is mo’ betta fun

Okay, for now I’ve turned off the “commenter must have one previously approved comment” rule. Though I might bring it back eventually as it’s a good way to prevent spam.

  11. mailorderwife says:

I hope our boys win today, or at least make a good game of it. If not, I might have to switch channels some as there is a psycho bitch diva movie festival on Lifetime. The only reason to watch that channel, really, as I hate romance movies.

    • I’m guessing that more than a few of the women I have known over the years are either featured or at the least characterized in several of those roles…

So, they question becomes with 48 games remaining on the schedule, can the Giants Can this year’s crop of trades, call ups and struggling vets gel in time to become a cohesive, effective team with the confidence they all seemed to have last year? From the all star break onward, last years team was so sure of itself…this season is quite different in many ways…including that self doubt and no one actually stepping up up in critical situations like they did every time they were needed. and it seemed to be everyone contributing on different game days…I haven’t been seeing that type of team play w/any consistency this year…

  12. Still looking flat today…can’t they get in another fracas that maybe leads to someone landing a punch on a true team leader to rally their flagging spirits or at the least, can’t Bochy get himself thrown out and let Wotus redirect these guys ‘fire’ into winning a game?

  13. mailorderwife says:

I wonder what kind of character Beltran and Cabrera bring to the club. They seem to not be themselves, although that might be mostly because of the losing streak. You can be selfish as hell in this game, but I don’t think that stuff flies on this squad. But then again, I might be grasping at straws.
